The art of making perfumes was first implemented by ancient Mesopotamians and Egyptians and was later refined by Persians and Romans. Knowledge of perfume making came to Europe with the spread of Islam during the 14th century. The first modern perfume was made in 1370 for Queen Elizabeth and was known as Hungary Water.
