How to Save Screenshot

  • You will first have to find out which keys you need to press together to capture a screenshot. In some computers, you will have to press only the Print Screen or PrntScrn button, while in others you might have to also press function keys such as Alt and Ctrl along with the Print key.
  • Once you have figured out which keys to press, open the page of which you want to take a screenshot and press the required keys.
  • Now go to the Start button, click on it and select All Programs. Then, click on Accessories and then Microsoft Paint.
  • When the Microsoft Paint programs opens click anywhere on the blank white portion of the program, click on Edit tab at the top of the window and select paste option from the drop down.
  • Your screenshot will be pasted here; you can crop the image if you want.
  • Once you have cropped the image to suit your requirement, save it by clicking the File menu and selecting save option. Change the file type to either PNG or JPG format in the pop-up box and choose the location where you want to save the image.

Windows Vista

  • Windows Vista has a new tool known as the Snipping Tool, which can use for saving screenshots of your computer screen.
  • To go to this tool, click on Start menu and type Snip, and then press enter.
  • The Spinning Tool will open and a white mask will come up on your screen.
  • Now, go the “New” button, click on it and choose between rectangular snip, free-form snip, full-screen snip and window snip options in the drop down menu.
  • If you select the free-form snip mode then you can simply draw around the area that you want to capture. In the rectangle mode, you can drag a rectangle around the image.
  • If you select the full screen mode, you don’t have to manually do anything; just selecting this option from the drop down will capture your image from the screen.
  • Finally, in the window snip mode, you can select the window that you wish to capture.
  • The snipped image will now open in the Snipping Tool itself and it will also be copied in Windows clipboard where it can be used for other applications.

Macintosh

  • If you are using Macintosh computer, you will have to go to a program known as grab on your computer. It is a pre-installed program for Mac users.
  • Open Spotlight and type “grab” to open the grab program.
  • When you open this program you will see a list of options, not any window.
  • Go to “Capture” to start taking photos. You will have many options here.
  • The first option is Selection, shortcut for which is pressing the A key, shift and Apply key together. This option will let you directly capture the image using a red box that you can drag on your image.
  • The second option is Window and its shortcut is pressing the W key, shift and Apply key. This option will allow you to capture the image of the window you are in.
  • The third option is the Screen option which lets you take a picture of the image that is showing currently on your computer screen. The shortcut for this is pressing the Z and Apple key together.
  • Finally, the Timed Screen option, which you can also get by pressing the Z key, shit and Apple key, allows you to set a time till which the computer will wait before taking a screenshot.

There is also one program in the market that you can use for taking screenshots of your computer screen, without having to go through all of these steps. It is called the ImageShack Quickshot program and can be downloaded from the ImageShack website. Some of its benefits, apart from saving time, are:

  • You can either take a picture of the full screen or only a picture of the window you have opened.
  • It lets you save your own hotkeys for saving and uploading the screenshots automatically.
  • It also lets you save each screenshot in the format you want (JPG, PNG etc.)

Lower electricity bills

  • Use stairs to reach your house or office instead of taking the elevator. This will not only help in saving power but also help you in keeping it.
  • Arrange for car pools while going to the office or for dropping kids to school. This will save your fuel costs and thus save you money.

How to Save Time

We are all familiar with the old cliché “Time is money”; which means that if you can save time, you are in effect saving money. If you know how to save time in your day-to-day activities, you can spend that extra time with your friends and family.  We all are well aware of the time that is wasted in doing outside errands such as paying bills, going to the post office, getting a hair-cut etc, where you have to stand and wait for your turn.   • Go the File menu, left-click on it and select “Import and Export” from the drop down menu.
  • Another menu will appear on the right, where you need to select the option “Export Bookmarks as HTML” and click on it with the left button of your mouse.
  • Now, choose the folder where you want to save the favorite by clicking on the Save option at the top of your computer screen.
  • The file will be saved as HTML automatically and you can change the name of the file if you want.
  • Click on the Save button to finish the process.

Google Chrome

  • To save favorites in Google Chrome open the browser on your screen.
  • Go to the tools menu at the top of the browser window and click on it.
  • Now, select Bookmark Manager option from the drop down menu.
  • In this window, click on the Tools menu with the left button of your mouse and select the option “Export Bookmarks”
  • Select the location where you want to save the exported files and click on Save to complete the process.

How to Save E-mails

Email, or electronic mail, has changed the way people communicate in the past few years and is the most widely mode of communication used today. It helps in communication by exchanging digital messages across computer networks through the internet. An email has two parts: the header, which contains information such as sender, receiver, subject etc and the body, which contains the message itself. Since these emails contain a lot of important information in them, you must know how to save e-mails.

There are many ways in which you can save your emails. You can save them in a flash drive or a disk or you can save them directly in Outlook Express. You can also create a backup of your old Outlook emails on the hard disk drive or an external drive. This article will give you details on each of these methods.
How to Save E mails
Backup Outlook email manually

  • Open Outlook Express and click on the File button at the top of your screen.
  • Move your cursor to the “Import and Export” button and click on “Outlook”.
  • Select the option “Export to a file” from the drop-down list and click on “Next”.
  • Now, choose the “Personal Folder File (.pst)” and click on “Next”.
  • Now, select the folder that contains the emails you want to backup and check the box named “Include Subfolders”. Click on “Next” button.
  • In the “Save exported files as” box, type in the name and location of the backup file that you have exported. You can also “Browse” for a location on your computer.
  • For previous email backups, click on “Options”. You can choose between three options here:
    “Allow duplicate items to be created”, “Replace duplicates with items created” and “Do not export duplicate items”. Choose the option which suits your needs and then click on “Finish”.

Automatic backup of files

  • Visit Microsoft’s website for downloading the automatic backup tool.
  • Under the heading “Destinations & Folders” click on “Download Centre” to go to the download page.
  • You will find a box next to “Search all downloads” where you will need to type “Personal file backup”.
  • Click on the option “Outlook 2003/2002 Add-in: Personal Folders Backup”.
  • Click on the “Continue” button after going through all the information and download the add-in.
  • Save the downloaded “Pfbackup.exe” to your computer’s hard disk and open it to follow the instructions for automatic backup.

If you want to back-up and save you emails from Outlook Express, you can follow these simple steps:

  • Open Outlook Express and click on “Tools” and select “Options” from the drop-down.
  • Click the “Maintenance” button and select “Store Folder”. Now, highlight the folder location and copy it by performing a right-click and selecting copy or by pressing CTRL and C keys on your keyboard together.
  • Click on the “Cancel” button to close all the opened boxes.
  • Click on the Start menu and select Run. In the pop-up box, paste the location of the folder you copied in the previous step and click OK.
  • Now, you will get a window that will have a database of your emails saved in .dbx format.
  • Now, click on the “Edit” button and then click “Select All” from the drop down. Again click on “Edit” and then select “Copy” from the drop down.
  • Go to the start menu again, click on All Programs, then Accessories and then on Windows Explorer.
  • In the Windows Explorer window click on the “File” button and select New and then Folder option. This will create a new folder and you can rename it.
  • Open this new folder that you have created and click on Edit and then Paste option. Your email messages have been saved here now. You can either copy them to a CD or transfer them another PC.

You can also save your emails in a USB drive. This will allow you to read the saved email messages even when you are offline. Follow these simple steps:

  • Sign into your email account by typing your user id and password in the required fields and open the email that has to be saved.
  • Click on the “Print Screen” button, open the word processing program and open a new document.
  • Now, press CTRL and V keys together on your keyboard and an image of your email will be pasted in the new document.
  • Save this document by clicking on the File button and selecting save option.
  • Now, attach the USB drive to your PC and open the folder to view files in it.
  • Now, open the folder where you saved the email. Click on the file and drag it to the window of the USB drive.
  • The time taken to copy the file will depend on the size of the email and the attachments with it.
  • You will notice a “Safely Remove Hardware” icon in the lower-right side of your system tray. Click on it and select USB flash drive from the options and take out the USB.
