How to be Fabulous

If you have always liked the thought of feeling and looking fabulous, then there are a few key ways for ensuring this, which will make heads turn and for the right reasons. There are four rules for being fabulous, which will make you look and feel good. The golden rule is to feel fabulous in your head. Here are some other rules on how to be fabulous.

Rule 1: Lashes

  • Always keep in mind that, the mind plays an important role in permitting you to be fabulous. When you look your best, you will feel that you are the best and since eyes are considered as the mirror of the soul, you will have to make them look pretty. This will make you feel wonderful and the adoring compliments, which you will get, will help you in boosting your ego.
  • You can increase your flatter-factor by using some eyelash extensions, which is the latest beauty craze. Blink and go with the fastest eyelash extension available in the market. Within 20 minutes, your eyelashes will be thick; these are luscious lashes that can last till two weeks. Remember that once you have the fake lashes you don’t need to wear mascara.

Rule 2: Lips

  • Being fabulous is all about being different from rest of the people, so you need to experiment. Ditch your old make-up routine and go for a new bold look. You can wear a bold shade of lip color, like red, which can help you in lifting your mood and confidence. One of the famous actors in Hollywood, Gweyneth Platrow said once, “Beauty to me is about being comfortable in your own skin. That or a kick-ass red lipstick.”
  • However, remember that red is one of the most difficult shades to get right. If you have the wrong shade of red then it will make you look like a drag queen rather than a beauty queen. Firstly you will have to match the right shade with your skin tone. If your skin has more of dark undertones then you will have to choose a red with pink base. If you have a pale skin, then lipsticks with a slight touch of blue will be perfect for you. Richer shades like plum and cherry red will suit the dark or Asian skins. However, except for this you will have to keep the rest of the make-up in a lighter tone for complementing the lip shade.

Rule 3: Heels

  • If you wear heels then it will not only make you look taller, but it will boost your confidence as well, making you look more feminine and slimmer. The heels will elongate your calf area, which will give an illusion that you have longer and slimmer legs.
  • All you have to do is pay attention to your walking style and take some extra care so that you do not trip and risk your health. For the posture, you will have to keep your back straight, lift your chest and pull the shoulders behind. This action will force you to pull your stomach inside and it will give you a good posture, which will make you feel better and confident. Hold your head high and look confident.

Tips and Warnings:

  • Have a good posture, be confident, yet realistic.
  • Always remember that you must never try too hard to become fabulous, you can be fabulous if you act normal.
  • Just be yourself and you will act and feel fabulous!

How to Calculate Voltage Drop

Voltage drop occurs when the circuits run over a long distance because of the resistance that is offered by the wire. All kind of wires offer some amount of resistance, as the length of the wire increases the resistance offered by the wire across the circuit increases. This article on how to calculate voltage drop will help you in calculating the voltage drop across single phase and three phase circuits.

Voltage drop is actually the reduction in voltage that occurs in an electrical circuit between the source and the load. When the voltage drop is excessive there is major wastage of energy in the wiring system and this will also result in improper functioning of the equipments. NEC (National Electric Code) has set some standards for voltage drop across the circuit. The voltage drop allowed for branch of a circuit is up to 3% and 5% of voltage drop is allowed for the entire circuit.
How to Calculate Voltage Drop
You can employ various methods to decrease the voltage drop across the circuit and increase the efficiency of the circuit. The easiest method of controlling or decreasing the voltage drop across the circuit is to increase the diameter of the wire which is responsible for carrying current across the circuit.

Calculating voltage drop for a single phase circuit:

Formula for this is given as:

VD = (2 × L × K × I)/CM

In the above formula:

  • VD is the voltage drop across the circuit
  • L is the length of the run
  • K is the resistivity of the wire
  • I is the current across the circuit
  • CM is the measure of diameter of the wire

The values for resistivity and diameter of the wire are available from NEC tables.

Example:

If you want to find the voltage drop across the across a single phase circuit whose length is 200 foot and having a load of 50 A. It is also given that the wire is a copper wire, 3 wire and 120/240 volt.

VD = (2 × 200 × 12 × 50)/41740

(Resistivity of copper is 12)

VD = 5.75 Volts

Therefore, the average voltage drop across the circuit is 5.75 volts.

Now, to calculate the percentage of voltage drop

Percentage of voltage drop

(VD/ V) × 100 = 5.75 volts/240 volts

= 0.0239 %

Therefore, the voltage drop across the circuit having the above dimensions is 0.0239 %. This is less than 3% so you can use it.

Calculating voltage drop for a three-phase conductor:

To calculate the voltage across a three-phase circuit we use the same formula, but multiply the above formula by 0.866. Basically to calculate the voltage drop between any two phase conductors we multiply it by 1.732/2.

Therefore, the formula for calculating voltage drop across a three phase conductor is given as:

VD (Voltage Drop) = 0.866 (2 × L × R × I/ CM)

The above formula can also be given as:

VD (Voltage Drop) = 1.732 (L × R × I /CM)

You can calculate the voltage drop across the circuit using the above formulae, if you know the values for length of run, resistivity of the conductor, current across the circuit and measure of the diameter and change the dimensions of the conductor if necessary to change the voltage drop across the circuit.

How to Calculate Velocity

Velocity is defined as the rate of change of displacement. If you want to define velocity, both its magnitude and direction are required. Hence, velocity is a vector quantity. Velocity is calculated as a function of time in most of the cases. There are many other formulae in physics that calculate velocity as a function of position or position as a function of velocity, time, etc. This article on how to calculate velocity will help you in calculating velocity as a function of time as well as instantaneous velocity.

The scalar quantity of velocity or the magnitude of velocity is speed which is expressed in terms of the total distance covered in a given time interval. The formula for calculating speed of an object is given as,

Speed = distance / time
How to Calculate Velocity
Calculating velocity as a function of time

The kinematic equation for calculating velocity of an object as a function of time is given by the formula

V (final) = V (initial) + a × t

In the above equation:

  • V (final) is the final velocity of an object which is to be calculated
  • V (initial) is the initial velocity of the object
  • “a” is the average acceleration
  • “t” is the time period within which the object covered a distance “d”

Usually free-falling objects have a constant acceleration as in this case the gravitational force acting on the object that is responsible for the motion of the object is constant i.e. 9.8 m/s2.

The unit for measuring velocity is m/s.

This equation for calculating velocity of an object can be used only when you know the initial velocity of an object is known. If the object is at rest initially then its initial velocity should be taken as 0. The object should also be under constant acceleration.

This equation of velocity can be used for the objects which are under constant acceleration and have a one-dimensional motion.

Instantaneous velocity

There is another form of velocity which you may want to calculate i.e. instantaneous velocity. This form of velocity i.e. instantaneous velocity is the rate of change of displacement of an object at any given time. To calculate instantaneous velocity of an object you need to know the methods of calculus.

Suppose you want to calculate the velocity of an object which is varying constantly, then you have to calculate the instantaneous velocity of the object.

Instantaneous velocity is given by the formula:

Instantaneous velocity is given by the formula

In the above equation:

  • ∆ x is the displacement of the object
  • ∆ t is the time taken by the object to displace over the distance ∆ x

Practically we use the equation as:

Practical equation

Suppose you are driving a car and the velocity of the car keeps on varying. In this case you cannot calculate the velocity of the car; you need to calculate the instantaneous velocity of the car. Calculating instantaneous velocity will give you more information rather than calculating the average velocity of such an object whose speed keeps on changing continuously.

How to Calculate Mortality Rate

To calculate the population of a certain place or a society, it is necessary to know how much of the population has demised and how many new born infants are there. For these calculations, there are measures called the birth rate and the death rate. In this article, you will get to know to measure one important part of calculation of total population of a certain place or society. This article will tell you how to calculate mortality rate.

Before moving forward, we should know what mortality rate means. Mortality rate is the measurement of death in a certain region with respect to its population. It is a measure of the numbers of death in a particular region with respect to its population size per unit time. It is generally expressed in number of deaths per 1000 individuals per year.
How to Calculate Mortality Rate
There are different kinds of mortality rate. They are mentioned below.

  1. Crude mortality rate: The total number of deaths per year per 1000 people is called crude mortality rate.
  2. Perinatal mortality rate: The total number of fetal and neonatal deaths per 1000 births is called perinatal mortality rate.
  3. Maternal mortality rate: The total number of maternal deaths per 1000 women of reproductive age is called maternal mortality rate.
  4. Infant mortality rate: The total number of infants’ (children below 1 year) deaths per 1000 live birth is known as infant mortality rate.
  5. Child mortality rate: The total number of child (more than 1 and less than 5 years) deaths per 1000 live births is called child mortality rate.
  6. Standardized mortality rate: SMR is a representation of a proportional comparison to the numbers of deaths that would be expected if the population had been of a slandered composition in terms of age, gender etc.
  7. Age-specific mortality rate: ASMR refers to the total number of deaths per 1000 people of a given age band per year.

There are two more types of mortality rates which are distinguished regarding success or failure of medical treatments or process, that is:

  1. Early mortality rate: The total number of deaths when treatment is in early stage.
  2. Late mortality rate: The total number of deaths when treatment is in its later stage.

Here is how you can calculate the above-mentioned mortality rates.

  • Crude mortality rate is the total number of deaths per 1000 people. It means mortality rate of 9% in a population of 1, 00,000 will be 900 deaths per year in that population.

Therefore, crude mortality rate = total number of death x 1000 / total population

  • Infant mortality rate is the total number of infant death per 1000 live birth.

Therefore, infant mortality rate = total number of infant deaths x 1000 / total live birth

  • Child mortality rate is calculated as the total number of child death per 1000 live birth.

Therefore, child mortality rate = total number of child death x 1000 / total live birth

  • To calculate age-specific mortality rate, let us take an age band of 70-80 years and cause be Y.

Now, the age specific death rate per 1000 population = total number of death x 1000 / total population of people in the age band of 70-80.

It is to be noted that the crude death rate depends upon age specific mortality rate and age distribution of the population which can give a misleading impression. The mortality rate is normally higher in less developed countries than in highly developed countries.

Here is a list of ten countries with the highest mortality rate in the world:

No.

country

Death rate

(number of death per 1000 people)

1. Swaziland 30.83
2. Angola 24.8
3. Lesotho 22.20
4. Sierra Leone 21.91
5. Zambia 21.34
6. Liberia 20.73
7. Mozambique 20.07
8. Afghanistan 19.18
9. Djibouti 19.10
10. Central African republic 17.84

How to Calculate Density of Water

Density is the measure of mass per unit volume. Different substances have different densities. Calculating density of a substance is very easy if you know the mass and volume of a substance. If you don’t know the mass and volume of the substance, you can determine them. It is quite easy to calculate density of the solids as compared to liquids and gases. This article will help you to know how to calculate density of water.

Water is a liquid, which takes the shape of the container in which it is poured so, calculating density of water is little difficult.
How to Calculate Density of Water
Formula for calculating density of any substance is given as:

Density = Mass/ Volume

We use the same formula for calculating density of water.

Calculating density of water

  • To calculate density of water, you have to calculate the mass of the water and the volume of the water.
  • Mass of the water is the amount of matter contained in it. Mass does not depend upon the gravitational pull on the substance. Mass of water is expressed in grams or kilograms or sometimes in pounds and ounces.
  • Volume of a substance refers to the amount of three-dimensional space occupied by the substance. Volume of a substance is expressed in liter or gallon.
  • Calculating volume of water is difficult if you use any ordinary vessel so, we use a graduated glass cylinder to measure the volume of water.
  • Fill the graduated glass cylinder with some amount of water and note down the mark up to which you have filled the water. This is the volume of the water; no extra calculations are required for calculating volume of water.
  • When you pour water in the cylinder, note that a curve is formed at the top. This curvature which is formed in the cylinder is called the meniscus. To read the exact volume of water in the cylinder, you need to read the point of contact of the lower curve or the lower meniscus with the graduation in the cylinder.
  • You can also easily weigh the mass of water in the cylinder. To calculate the mass of water within the cylinder, weigh the cylinder along with water in it. Note down this weight.
  • Now, remove water from the cylinder and weigh the empty cylinder. Note down this weight also.
  • Now, to calculate mass of the water, subtract the value obtained by weighing the cylinder with water and cylinder without water. This is the mass of the water.
  • By dividing the mass of water you calculated by volume of water you can obtain the density of water.

Example:

If you have calculated the mass of water to be 6 grams and volume of water you noted is 0.1 liters. Then using the formula for calculating density of water, you can calculate density of water as:

Density of water = mass of water/volume of water

Density of water = 6/0.1

Density of water = 60 grams per liter

Therefore density of water having a mass of 6 grams and volume 0.1 liter is 60 grams per liter.

If the units in which you have calculated the mass and volume are not compatible with each other, then first convert them into compatible units and calculate the density of water. You can also use online sources to know the conversion factors between various units.

How to Teach a Parrot to Talk

Every parrot owner dreams of a talking parrot that is also able to give response to questions. Parrots have exceptional hearing skills and are able to mimic whatever sound they hear. However, the learning capacity differs from parrot to parrot. If you want to know how to teach a parrot to talk, then go through the steps given in this article.

There are two different approaches to training a parrot to talk. One is called imitative training, where the owner says a word and asks the parrot to repeat it back, while the other is responsive training in which the parrot responds to the questions asked by the owner. Of the two, imitative training is easier although responsive training gives more impressive results.
How to Teach a Parrot to Talk
Here are the steps to train your parrot to talk:

  • When you begin training your parrot to talk, you must start with imitative training. You cannot expect the parrot to respond to your questions if he does not know how to talk in the first place.
  • Start the training by selecting a simple and short word, having not more than two syllables. It is a good idea to start off with a simple word such as “hello”.
  • Remember not to start the training with many words at once as this will only confuse the parrot.
  • Repeat the word that you have chosen continuously in front of the parrot so that it can understand the sound of the word. Make sure your voice is calm, loud, and clear and repeat the word in front of your bird with a gap of few seconds between repetitions.
  • As you repeat the word your bird will suddenly make a sound in response. The sound may be nothing like the word that you have just repeated. Nevertheless, give your parrot a treat for at least speaking something.
  • Keep repeating the word and slowly the sound coming out of the bird will resemble the word you are saying. Keep praising him with treats to motivate him to speak.
  • The time it takes for the bird to learn one word can be either few sessions for some parrots or it may even take up to a month for others.
  • Once your parrot is able to speak that word you can teach him more words. Make the teaching process gradual and don’t bombard your parrots with many words at a time.

Once you have taught your bird to repeat or imitate your voice and what you say, you can also train him to respond to some of your questions. Here is how to do it:

  • To train your parrot to respond to your questions, you will first have to teach him the answer to the question.
  • This will take more time because the answer might be a sentence made up of some words.
  • Once the parrot has learned the response, it is time to ask the question.
  • Say the question and prompt the parrot to respond back to you with the answer you taught him.
  • If it gives you the correct answer, reward it and repeat the process till the bird responds correctly to the question every time you ask it.
  • Once your parrot has memorized one response, you can teach him more answers and responses.
  • Remember that teaching a parrot to respond will take more time than teaching it to talk; you will have to be very patient.

How to Teach a Horse to Dance

When you think about teaching a horse to dance, don’t expect your horse to break into a hip-hop or jazz routine. Dancing, as far as horses are concerned, is a trot-like movement, also known as piaffe that horses do, which somewhat looks as if they are dancing. If you want to know how to teach a horse to dance, then go through the methods described in this article.

Training a horse requires four essential things: motivation, direction, spot, and rewards. If you adopt the correct technique combines with these four things mentioned above, it will be very easy for you to train your horse to dance. Here are some simple steps that you can follow:

How to Teach a Horse to Dance

  • The basic thing to keep in mind even before you start training your horse is that it will take years of training for your horse’s “dancing skills” to be of competition quality. However, your horse can pick up the basic steps of piaffe with some training.
  • Start off by some warm-up exercise for your horse, which involves some basic groundwork, by leading the horse at a trot and then back him up.
  • Move the horse’s hips and shoulders and encourage him to move his head up and down as if he is nodding.
  • It is very important that your horse respects you and understand your commands. He must be able to recognize when you apply pressure and understand what he is expected to do, for the pressure to be released.
  • If you find that your horse is unable to understand what you are asking him to do, start with some easier challenges and then slowly move on to the piaffe.
  • Put a halter on the horse and attach a lead rope to it. These items are more than enough for beginning the piaffe training. As you move on further in the training, you will have to use a saddle and bridle to connect the rein to the horse’s side. You could also use both side reins to make it easier.
  • The side reins will connect the snaffle’s ring and the girth on the same side at around nine inches below your horse’s back. Now, you will have to lead rope on the snaffle ring, which is to the left.
  • Tie your horse’s tail, securing it with a rubber band so that it does not come in the way.
  • Now, stand your horse in such a manner that you have a wall or a fence to its right side. You need to stand on the left side near his shoulder. Make sure that you are able to reach his hind legs using the dressage whip.
  • Next, tap your horse’s left hind leg till he lifts it up. Once he lifts his leg, stop tapping and praise him. Repeat this action few times or till your horse understands what you are asking him to do. Give him a treat if he holds his leg up nicely and for a longer period of time.
  • Ideally, the horse should be able to lift his leg up to his fetlock hold it there for at least for two seconds. Repeat this process now with the right leg and praise him once he is able to do this.
  • Remember not to overtire or bore your horse by stretching your training sessions for too long. Make sure that each session does not last for more than 10 minutes. To give him more practice you can have more sessions in a day.
  • Now it is time to teach the horse to lift both his legs one by one. Put the saddle, bridle and reins on your horse and ask him to lift his left leg and then his right. Praise him and give him a treat if he does that. Practice more to get quicker responses out of your dog.
  • Once your horse is a pro at the left-right-left-right routine, trot him forward by a step after a left-right routine.
  • Tap him gently on the haunches to encourage him to move forward. Remember that horses walk by moving their legs in diagonal pairs. If your horse has lifted his right hind leg then tap on his left front leg to encourage forward movement.
  • Lift your horse’s head to get him lighter on his front legs. Practice this for some time and you might immediately notice him to do a step looks like a dance. Reward and praise him for that and continue the practice.
  • Don’t worry if your horse is unable to dance on the first day. With consistent practice and lots of encouragement and praise from you, you horse will start dancing gracefully.

Tips & warnings

  • While training your horse to dance, stay focused and stand tall. Once you are finished with a practice session, relax and shift your focus away from the horse as a cue for him to know that the training is over.
  • Ignore your horse’s behavior and always praise him when he does as you requested.

How to Teach a Dog to Swim

Although you would think that swimming is something that comes naturally to dogs, as it does to all animals, there are some dogs that might be afraid of water and need to be trained to swim. If you want to learn how to teach a dog to swim, then go through the different methods given in this article and make the training a fun and interesting activity for both yourself and your dog.

Here are some steps that you can follow to train your dog to swim:

  • Training a dog to swim involves the same technique whether you teach him in a pool or in the ocean.
  • The first thing to do when you take your dog inside water is to let him feel the bottom, especially if your dog is somewhat scared of water.
  • How to Teach a Dog to Swim

  • Start off in a shallow area of the beach for the dog to get used to the water and walk him back and forth. Don’t insist on actual swimming yet. You need to first make the dog comfortable in water.
  • Slowly, take him deeper inside the ocean. Here too follow the dog’s cue; it may also happen that your dog will himself pull you to go further into the water.
  • It is very important to remember here that it is not advisable to pull or shove your dog in the water. The only thing this will do is to make the dog more scared of water.
  • Once you are in water that is deep enough for the dog to swim guide him to swim. Put a hand under his belly and let him experience the feeling.
  • You can also throw his ball a short distance away in the water and encourage him to go after it.
  • Keep your voice excited and encourage your dog to swim. Reward him with treats and praise him a lot once you see him starting to swim on his own.
  • Keep the training session short and watch out for your dog showing any signs of fatigue, shivering or wheezing. Take him out of the water immediately in such a case.

Tips & warnings

  • Don’t let your dog swim alone; you must always accompany your dog in the swimming pool.
  • Ensure that you take out all his balls and toys from the pool, so that he is not tempted to jump inside the pool.
  • Using a dog life jacket will be very useful, especially if you are training your dog in a river or ocean.
  • Don’t let your dog drink ocean water or water from the swimming pool; it may be dangerous for him.
  • Make sure that there is a gap of at least one and half to two hours between the swimming activity and his meals. Eating just before or right after swimming will lead to bloating, which is not at all good for the dog.
  • It is easier to teach swimming to smaller dogs and puppies as they can be easily lifted and put in the pool. It is difficult to carry a full-grown heavy dog into the pool and taking him in through the steps can be a bit tricky sometimes.
  • You can bring another dog that knows how to swim to encourage your dog to learn swimming faster.

How to Calculate Net Credit Sales

If you are running a company then you must know what the term net credit sales means. However, you may not know how to calculate net credit sales of a company. In this article you will get to know how you can calculate net credit sales of a company. Before moving forward, I want you to know what exactly a net credit sale is.

Net credit sales of a company is determined as that amount which is left after deducting all the discount offered and money paid out for returns and other factors from the company’s sales.

There are two types of sales.

  1. Cash sales
  2. Credit sales

Each one has its own related allowances, discounts and returns. When you are calculating net credit sales then you have to ignore cash sales completely. Cash sales have nothing to do with credit sales. The formula for the calculation of net credit sales is as follows: -
Net Credit Sales Formula

Net credit sales = gross credit sales – related sales returns & allowances – related sales discounts.

Steps for calculating net credit sales:

  • Step 1: Consider the amount of gross sales of the company made during the time period for which you are doing the calculation. Normally the time period taken is of 1 month or 1 quarter or 1 year.
  • Step 2: Consider the number of sales-returns for that specific time period as the gross sale of the company. The sale-return number is that amount of money which is paid to the customers in exchange of those products which customers return or refund.
  • Step 3: Calculate the sales allowance for that given time span. This is that amount which has been paid as discount to the customers.
  • Step 4: Add the sale-returns and the sales allowances together.
  • Step 5: Subtract the amount you get after adding sale-returns and sales allowances from the gross sales total for the given time period.
  • Step 6: The amount which you get now is the net credit sales of your company for that specific time period.

For example let us assume this data

  1. Gross sales of a company for a year – Rs 1,00,000
  2. Sale-returns number – Rs 5000
  3. Sales allowance – Rs 10,000

Gross sales – (sale-returns number + sales allowance) = Net credit sales

Rs 1,00,000 – (Rs 5,000 + Rs 10,000) = Rs 1,00,000 – Rs 15,000 = Rs 85,000

In simpler words, to calculate net credit sales, you have to add up all the income coming from different sources, including cash and credit card receipts to obtain total gross sales. Deduct returns from it. In a business it is pre-decided that it would experience returns. In the same way it has to experience allowances too. Tips & warnings:

  • Keep a track sheet of all the returns, allowances and discounts given to customers.
  • It will be better if you keep separate record of each individual item to make calculation of net credit sales much easier.
