How to be a Better Christian

A Christian is a person who will adhere to Christianity, which is a religion based on the teachings and life of Jesus of Nazareth. Christians believe that Jesus is the Messiah who has been prophesied in the Hebrew Bible and is the son of God. Most of the Christians will believe in the doctrine of trinity, which is a description of God as father, Holy Spirit and son, but most of the Christians are Nontrinitarians.  Learning how to be a better Christian is very simple.

In the modern beliefs, it has been found that there are many people around the world who call themselves Christians. There is a tremendous growth in the Christianity in non-traditional ways. Many people these days will not attend the church on Sundays but will opt for their personal and individual ways for stretching themselves to spirituality. There are numerous ways one can follow to become a better Christian. Here are some simple steps on how to become a better Christian.

  • Be creative

Invent, sing, write and paint. You must always experiment with your creativity even if you get the feeling that you have none, then just do it in the name of god. Now you will want to know why, because if you are creative then it will pay homage to God’s boundless creativity. God has given you many gifts that you didn’t even know you had.

  • Get involved

Most of the Christians will look at the church as more of a weekly appointment. They will go to the church and go back home complaining how bemoaning and lifeless place a church is. However, churches are vibrant similar to congregants. The Apostle Paul has once said that “we are all parts of the Christ’s body and everyone is asked to perform a task inside it.” therefore everyone must serve the local church.

  • Read the Bible

The most critical aspect of growing as a Christian is delving in the word of God. You must take some time out everyday to read the bible for educating and inspiring. This will help you in focusing on what is more important in life.

  • Attend a different church

Attending a different church does not mean that you have to switch the church; instead you just have see how Christians honor God. You can visit a Greek Orthodox Church and you can see the vast diversity in Christianity, which is very fascinating. You must observe the people while worshipping God, this will help you in understanding Christianity and appreciating the practice.

  • Take a walk

The best way to remind yourself about the gift of God is by admiring the nature that surrounds you. Take a walk on the beach, hike or just spend some time in a park and look at the miraculous things that God has created on this earth.

  • Volunteer

Participate in serve a soup kitchen or teach the underprivileged children. Donate your precious time in helping others. This way you can mimic Jesus’s own heart and convey all his love and you will get to learn how blissful it is to volunteer.

  • Read about Christian thinkers

Nearly for 2,000 years, some of the brightest minds in the history have tackled the Christian faith in prickly paradoxes. Take a trip through the books of Aquinas, Augustine and C.S. Lewis for understanding about this religion.

  • Stretch yourself

God has never intended us to get relaxed or comfortable in this life. To be a person who God always wanted us to be, you will have to constantly look for new challenges or opportunities to understand the important lessons of life. No challenges are easy, but they are worth it in the end.

  • Keep a journal

You should maintain a record of your own thoughts, actions and feelings. This can become an important guide in the walk of your life. When you look back at your journal after years, then you will be amazed to know how much you have grown in the past years.

  • Exercise

Apostle Paul has written that, “Christian body is a temple and exercise will keep that temple in good repair.” Everyday try to have at least a 30-minute workout, which will help you in clearing out your mind from everyday flotsam and you can focus on spiritual things.

  • Participate in bible study

Christianity has always been communal faith from Jesus to all his disciples. All people are meant to look for God together. You can share your insights, build it on the knowledge of each other, and help one another through the patches of life.

  • Save time for devotion

God says that we are like his hands and feet, but the reality it we cannot be everywhere. However, through our finances we can make the love of God felt across the globe. There are many charities and ministries around the world and they are doing great work to help people. Look for these charities and make a long-term donation to one of these charities.

  • Spend time with family

God will love it if you enjoy all the gifts given by Him to you and the most precious gift is family. Go for a walk with your daughter, play football with your son, call up your parents once in a while and take care of your spouse. When the people closest to us are happy, then it means that we are showing God’s face to them and nothing else is more important in this world.

  • Forgive someone

One of the hardest things in life according to Christianity is forgiving someone. When you are hurt, the last you would want to do is let go off that hurt. You would want to punish the person who has hurt you, but if you do this then you will end up hurting yourself. Christ always tells us to unclench our fists and forgive all those who have persecuted us. Once you do this, you will realize the forgiveness is not for helping them but for us.

  • Be still

God has the ability to speak to us in the whirlwinds and earthquakes, but mostly he will speak to us in a still small voice. This voice is often neglected in the busy day-to-day life. Take some time out to listen to this voice and you will be surprised by what you hear.
