- Identify the causes of your stress. Has your heart started pounding because your friend just cut the phone or because you have a presentation at work today? Try to think for a moment and figure out the things that have been actually bothering you.
- Select your response. Even though you are not able to change the source of your stress, you surely do have the power for choosing how you are going to respond. The correct response for stress will always depend on what is the problem for the stress. You can shake the complete stress off you or face-it. For getting rid of the stress, you can ask yourself some questions, like does it really matter? Try to consider the effect of stress on you. How much can you control the situation? Is the source of the stress from your past, present or future?
- Shake it all off. If the situation is not in your control or is not important, you will have to stop worrying about the problem. Try a few things to get rid of the stress, like inhale deeply and count till five in your head and then exhale. Try to divert your mind. Think of all the things that make you happy for making your mind free of stress. Imagine relaxing things, like deserted islands, meadows or country road. Close your eyes and try to see all the minor details in these places. Walk away from the cause of the stress. If you can physically escape from this stress, then just leave the room.
- Face your stress when you are ready. Getting yourself stressed in never going to help you in resolving the situation. Sitting alone in a room and procrastinating will intensify the stress. Facing the stress will simply mean that you are shaking off the stress. If you can overcome a stressful situation, which is very important to you, then the easiest way to get rid of it is by overcoming it. Once you have solved the underlying problem, you can get rid of the stress because it does not matter to you anymore.
- Make a plan. Most of the times you can solve a stressful problem with one swift action. For this you will have to write some steps for getting rid of stress and attaining your calmness. For avoiding stress and to stop it from affecting your life you will have to be proactive and not let stress enter your life.

- If you are in a situation, where you are loosing your calm, then just focus on some different things for avoiding any stressful situations. Never swear or shout if you lose your calm. You will have to let the anger out but in a reasonable manner; shouting or swearing will make it worse.
- Never get emotional, just handle the situation in a practical manner. Getting emotional in that situation will simply drain you out and you won’t be able to focus on things.
- Always remember that you must not hit anything when you get over stressed. It will make you an aggressive person instead of a calm one. Find some different ways for letting your anger out.
- Never blame everything that is happening around you on yourself. Sometimes, it doesn’t matter how hard you try, but still the situation comes on you and you are not able to solve it. Giving up on something is not bad, but never give up on yourself.
