Fashion designing is devoted to clothes and accessories that are made with the changing social life according to time. The clothes are designed according to the seasons such as spring, summer, autumn and winter. Italy is considered the fashion capital it has been the leading fashion destination since 1970s. Places like America, France, Britain and Japan are also top in fashion.

Fashion designers put in a lot of hard work to create new styles and fashion, which is followed worldwide. The fashion designers are of two types.

• In house fashion designers: the in house designers are full time designers for a particular fashion company.
• Freelance fashion designers: they work on their own basis; they sell their designs to the fashion companies, shops, to the clothes manufacturer.

All the designer garments have the designers label on them. There are also designers who design clothes only for specific clients. Some designers work only for big brands or high-fashion stores. They follow the recent fashion styles and keep their store updated. However, many designers prefer to work for manufacturers of attires they create styles and designs of women, men’s and kids for the market. Popular brands like Chanel, Gucci and Calvien Klien have various individual designers working for them under the designer director.

There are many well renowned art and design schools around the world. The most famous fashion schools are London College of Fashion, Central Saint Martins College of Arts, and University of Westminster.

Becoming a fashion designer is like a dream for many people. Here are a few steps that will take you closer to your dreams.

Steps:

• Make a wise decision whether you have the ability to succeed in this career. There is very stiff competition in this stream you will need lot of self-confidence to be successful.
• Before stepping into the world of fashion designing get a degree from a reputed college/university. Put in your work and sketches, if you have any during application.
• You can also enroll yourself for a part time business course. It will give you all the knowledge of the market and some business information about your industry is necessary.
• Also, try to learn software, which are related to designing like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
• Make a portfolio of your own designs. Put in all your creative designs together, it will also convince the company that you are a benefit to their business.
• Take up an internship as early as possible. You will get a lot of experience and it can help you in getting your first job after college.
• Keep yourself updated with the current fashion trends. Read fashion magazines like Vogue, Instyle, and Elle.

Tips:

• Keep in mind that most of the fashion designers work in metropolitan cities.
• When you start in this industry be prepared to work on low income and on some vague design work.
• Take sewing classes, it will come handy. You can impress your clients with your ready work.
• Do not give up, it will take sometime for you to succeed and advance to a further level.
