A person who is the member of an aircrew, engaged by airlines to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers is termed as “flight attendant”. Flight attendant is also known as “air hostesses” or “air host”, earlier they used to known as “stewardesses” and “stewards”. Flight attendants are distinguished from engineers to pilots in the cockpit.
The flight attendant’s role has been derived from similar positions of passenger trains and passenger ships, but flight attendant functions more toward the safety of the passengers than those similar employees on other means of transport.
The word steward is referred as transportations, which is used as a terminology in maritime transport. United Kingdom (UK) had the first “stewards”, in “Imperial Airways”, in the year 1920, in USA; stewards were employed by “Stout Airways”. In modern aviation terminology “Lead flight attendants” are supposed to perform the function of steward, purser, and chief steward.
“Ellen church” was the first female steward; she was hired in the year 1930 by United Airlines as a registered nurse, she also envisaged nurses on airplane. This rule was followed by other airlines too, the requirement of flight attendants rose at the time of world war 11.

Instructions:
- Look for flight attendant job vacancies and requirement for bigger cities in newspapers, internet.
- For flight attendant, you should have experience in customer services and 2 year college degree. That is the basic requirement of every airline.
- If you want to work with international airline, then you must at least learn one foreign language.
- At initial stage of your career, you will have to move to another city.
- After five to seven week training sessions, you will have survived on a reserve status for almost one year.
You will have to be prepared for short notice calls. they can call you on flight at any time
- Be prepared for 80 to 85 hours of flying in a month, and during this period of time you will also have to work as the ground crew member. However, you will be getting paid for flight services only.
Tips and warnings:
- Learn to be punctual, and on time at every occasion of your life, before you try to get in this profession. You will have to arrive 10 minutes before scheduled time at our work.
- In this profession, you will have to work at nights, on holidays, on weekends, and you will always have to shift from one place to another.
- Attain every kind of training they provide such as passenger relations, annual trainings, emergency procedures, etc.
- If you cannot stand for long period of time, then don’t even think about this profession as your career.
- In this field, you will have to face some medical problems such as irregular sleep, strain, reduced diet, breathing recycled air, etc.
