How to Become a Lawyer

A lawyer is a person who holds a “license to practice law” and study some basic aspect of law such as solicitor, legal representative, and advice. Law is a “system of convention”, which has been established by the “sovereign government” to control the wrong deeds, for justice, and to maintain steadiness in the society. A person who works as a lawyer is supposed to perform legal services and should know the practical purpose of “conceptual legal theories”. Lawyer should have an ability to solve the problem of any individual and to advance the interest of those who hire them. The function of lawyer varies particularly at every legal authority. The educational prerequisites to becoming a lawyer differ largely from nation to nation. In most countries, law is a department of a general undergraduate college and it is taught by law faculty. In those countries the student of law pursues bachelor or master degree of law. Law is not only limited to L.L.B, instead it is followed by advanced training, extra coursework at special institute of government, and assessments. In some countries lawyers have various offers over their career course, such as instead of private practice lawyer can also become a government advisor, prosecutor, judge, politician, law lecturer, executive law judge, mediator, business executive. Preparations of legal training can be good for many jobs such as journalist, investment banker, corporate executive, etc.

  • Learn every aspect of legal profession. Seek information about job opportunities in this field. Investigate about the law school and about the degree which is required for practicing law in your state.

  • Join a law college which offers four years of undergraduate degree. Pursue your degree from renowned college and with high Grade Point Average (GPA).

  • Prepare for Law School admission Test (LSAT), it is an entrance exam for law school admission. You can buy a preparation books, tapes, and self-testing supplies to prepare for exams, which offer you model of questions and helps you to prepare for test.

  • You can apply for admissions in more than one Law College, as you know that you may not get admission in every institute you apply. Apply for best law school which is  recognized by American Bar Association (ABA). The accreditation of Law College differs from state to state.

  • After you have finished with your third year in the college, try to seek some experience in your respective field, such as participate in extracurricular activities i.e. bar review, write for campus law journal, and do internship. These experiences will make a good impact on your resume.

  • Choose your area of interest in which you want to specialize i.e. divorce lawyer, crime lawyer, property lawyer etc. After your graduation course you will receive a J.D. degree i.e. Juris Doctor.

  • Take the state bar association exams investigate about the requirements, fees, dates and other important information about Bar association exams, if you want to take Bar exams in another state.

  • Make your resume, which highlights your skills and experience in this profession. Post your resume on different job sites.
