A “celebrity” (actor) is a person who is famous worldwide and well-known, for his stardom, and acting skills in the films. The tag of “superstar” is given to those people who are outstanding and very successful actors. A “movie star” is also defined as the person who belongs to the entertainment industry. Earlier, in the age of silent movies (without dialogues), directors never gave credit to actors for their movie. In that era actors were not as popular as they are now. They used to clean up studios, help to build the sets, and used to help in other activities in studio. When movies started going public, then people started noticing the lead actors, and they acknowledged their work. Later on directors and producers changed their policy and started acknowledging the actors. “Florence Lawrence” was the “first film star”, who got credit for her work by movie producers.   Earlier she was known as “Biograph girl” and IMP girl, as she used to work for Biograph studios and for Independent Moving Pictures Company.

Entertainment industry, in the 1980s, started publicizing stars through press conferences, community activity, movie junkets, and other publicity strategy.  In other cases, publicity agents raise “controversies” or “provoking advertisements” to elicit public storm and get free news coverage. These kinds of publicity stunts raised people’s curiosity to know more about the films and actors. This publicity stunt dragged many of them to the box-office. Stars had to sign a long term contract with any film studio, and that banner got them the required stardom by promoting and advertising films to make them a huge success.
