Preparing for a career in surgeon:

  • First of all, research about medicine as a career. Ensure that you are avid about the medical profession and you are ready to work for long hours.

  • Inquire about the syllabus in medical school. Comprise them in your four year college prospectus.
  • To get admission in good medical colleges, you will have to take the ‘Medical College Admission Test’ (MCAT).

  • You will have to serve a rotation or externship with a plastic surgeon.
  • Inquire about the different trails for becoming a plastic surgeon. Choose if you want to pursue your course from the independent model.
  • There is a three-year general surgical residency followed by another three-year plastic surgery residency. You can also go for the integrated model, a six to seven year residency course, which contains the entire surgical training.
  • If you want to go for independent model, then take admission in residency corresponding program for three-year broad surgery residency. If you want to pursue in integrated model, then you can go for residency corresponding program for six-year integrated plastic surgery residency.
  • Secure your job opportunity early in the last year of your plastic surgery residency.
  • Fulfil the requirement for board qualifications. These requirements are explained by the ‘American Board of Plastic Surgery’.
