A hat is a head covering material. The hat can be worn for various purpose such as for safety reasons, for protection from elements (i.e. sun, dust, pollution), religious purpose, and for style statements. Earlier, hats were the sign of “social status”. In military, Hats used to signify as a regiment and rank. The size of hats is determined after measuring the edge of a person’s head around 1.3cm above the ears and dividing by “pi”. In UK, the size of a hat is equal to ninth of an inch lesser than in United State. Centimeters and inches of hats depend on the manufacturer. Hats are of two types i.e. felt hats and hard hats. “Hard hats” such as Top hats and Derbys, consist of hard “Cheaper” it comes in three typical sizes, such as large, medium, and small. Felt hats are stretchable in nature they can be stretched for a custom fit.
“Locks” was the first and most popular “hat-maker” of London. “Davis” and “Sharp” was another popular hat makers, they belongs to American Hat Company.
you must have noticed your favorite hat or cap is looking dirty, and wondering how you can wash it and maintain its size, edge, and shape. Every hat contains a “cleaning tag” inside hat, you can follow the direction which is given on tag for appropriate cleaning of your hat. If the tag is not there on your hat, then follow the following steps to clean your hat.
Instructions:
1: If you Cleaning the hat which is less than ten years old.
- Hats are generally made up of wool, cotton, or jersey, and they have a plastic bill. Find out what is the material of your hat.
- Cotton hats are long-lasting and colorfast. Spray some pre- wash spray on the dirty part of the hat. Wash them in cold water and let them dry in air, do not expose to sun.
- Woolen hats should be washed by hand, not in washing machine, as they will shrink in machine. Pour some water in a container and put some amount of woolite into the water.
- Wash the hat carefully, do not scrub or twist it, as it can affect the size and looks of the hat. Clean your hat in cold water and dry it gently in a towel. Keep your hat on coffee can for drying.
- Jersey hats and cotton hats are alike. Jersey hats be washed in the washing machine in cool water, and can be dried in air dry. Jersey hats dry quickly, no need to dry them with dryer.
2: Cleaning hats which is ten year old:
- Make a “colorfast” test on your hat to find out if the color fades or bleeds. Colorfast test can be done by using wet washcloth and small amount of detergent, and rub it on the hidden spot of the hat.
- Wash the cap by rubbing it with a wet clean cloth. Let the hat dry in air.
- If the color of the hat is okay, then you can wash it in the same method as above.
