The structure of the cymbals plays an important role in the sound which it creates. There is a gap in the centre of the cymbal, which is used to increase the cymbal on a straps (playing form hand) or stand. The various parts of cymbal i.e. dome, bell, or cup is the raised section directly surrounding the hole. The bells produce highest pitch than any other cymbal. Cymbals are measured basically by their diameter in centimeter and inches. The sound effect of cymbals depends on their size and weight. Large cymbals generally have louder sound and have longer maintain. Heavier cymbals have louder sound, better stick expression have more cut. Thin cymbals have faster response and fuller sound.
Cymbal cleaning is a comparatively easy process, though it is not an unlimited necessity. Cleaning helps you to keep your cymbals sounding and looking professional and expand its life. The cleaning process which is mentioned below is applicable for suspended, crash, and drum set cymbals.
Things required:
- Large container or bucket
- Cymbals
- Clean towel or mob
- Dish washer soap
- Commercial cymbal cleaner
- Clean polishing clothes
Instructions:
- First of all remove suspended and crash cymbals from their stand. Remove cymbal straps to clean.
- Soak the cymbals in water and dish washer soap for 20 minutes. Remove it from water and drain all the excessive water.
- Take clean towel or rag and put some quantity of commercial cymbal cleaner to it.
- Clean every area of cymbal carefully. Do not rub too hard, rub along the grooves of the cymbal.
- Repeat the process four to five times until the entire cymbal is cleaned. For every part of cymbal, use a clean section of towel.
- Wash the cymbal again in clean and fresh water. Polish the entire cymbal with dry and clean cloth.
- Make sure that you have cleaned every removable part of cymbal, place cymbal back on their stand or tie strap back onto cymbal.
Tips and warnings:
