A vinyl siding is an external shield for a home it is mostly used for weatherproofing and decorating. Vinyl siding is a very good alternative from the wooden, aluminum, and fiber cement siding. The vinyl sliding is manufactured from Polyvinyl chloride, PVC, resin. In New Zealand and UK vinyl siding is known as uPVC weatherboarding.
Nearly 80 percent of the weight of vinyl siding consists of PVC resin, and the remaining 20 percent weight is of the various other ingredients such as color, gloss, impact resistance, flexibility, opacity and durability. Vinyl siding is very common in United States and Canada and is installed in every residential area. However, there have been many controversies regarding the siding and the disposal of it, is the major concern for the green building project.
In the 1950s, vinyl siding was introduced by the external cladding market. In Columbus, Ohio, vinyl siding was manufactured for the first time. Initially, the process of manufacturing vinyl siding was done with mono-extrusion. Previously mixing the colors to it was done physically, this product was used as a replacement for aluminum siding. Cleaning a vinyl siding is very easy. Here are some easy steps, which will help you in cleaning your vinyl siding.

Steps (before cleaning):
- Before you start the cleaning process, you need to take care of a few things in your house. Make sure that you close all the doors and windows in the house.
- Switch off all the main power supply of the house. Also, cover the indoor plants to protect them from being damaged. You can also cover your stuffed toys.
Steps for Cleaning Vinyl Siding:
Ingredients:
- Detergent
- Water
- A brush (soft bristled)
- Old towels and a broom
- 1 large bucket
- 1 tube
- pressure washer (if required)
Steps:
- Before you start cleaning, divide the area to be cleaned in small sections of 3-5 foot. After that take a big bucket, add 1/4-cup detergent to it, and mix well.
- Take all the cleaning equipments like a brush, mop. Now take an old towel, tie it around the head of a broom, and stick it with a tape.
- Take the tube to blow away all the dust and dirt. You can also use a pressure washer instead of a tube it is convenient and saves a lot of time. Do not spray water behind the vinyl panels from the seams. This will increase the problem of mold and mildew, which is even difficult to clean.
- Start right from the top, dip an old towel in the detergent solution and start scrubbing the dirt from the siding. Continue from top down.
- You can also use the tube to rinse the detergent solution. Make sure that you remove the detergent solution properly, or it will leave a mark on the siding. Continue this process for at least 3-4 times for every section.
Tips:
- If you do not want to use chemical based detergents, there are many eco-friendly detergents available in he market. You can also use trisodium phosphate instead of a detergent.
- To get rid of the mildew on the siding, you can use bleach. You can also make a mixture of 1 small cup of bleach and 5 cups of water, mix it and use it for scrubbing away mildew.
