How to Clean Walls

A wall is a strong solid structure that is helpful in protecting a particular area. The basic definition of a wall is to support building, separate rooms in a building or to protect an open space. There are three basic types of wall retaining walls, building walls and exterior walls. The main purpose of a building is to give support to the roofs and ceilings. These kinds of walls have three to four different components.

The walls these days also have an electrical wiring in it, for electrical outlets, which are usually on the walls. Building walls is an art in itself especially when it has murals and mosaics painted or even texture paint on it. On a ship the walls, which separate the compartments are known as bulkheads, the thin walls separating rooms is known as partitions. In civil engineering, the term call wall means a wall used only for decorations.

Cleaning walls is an easy process. This article will give you easy steps on how to clean walls.

The basic wall cleaning process:

Things Required:

  • Ladder
  • Vacuum cleaner with all attachments
  • Detergent
  • Soft cloth or a sponge
  • Water
  • One bucket
  • Dry towel
  • One plastic drop cloth

Procedure:

  • Start with lining the floor with plastic paper in the area you will be working. This will help from stains and water spills on the flooring.
  • Now take a brush attachment of the vacuum cleaner to remove dirt, dust or cobwebs from the walls. Make sure that you do not push the brush hard against the wall surface the loose dust on the brush might leave a mark on the wall.
  • Now apply the detergent on the spots. Begin from the top side of the wall, and then go side ways and then top down.
  • When you see that the cloth has become very dirty, rinse it thoroughly with water. Now work in the similar way on all the walls until the time they are spotless.

Crayon Stains on the Wall:

Things Required:

  • Blunt knife
  • Eraser preferably (Mr. Clean Magic Eraser)
  • Detergent
  • Soft cloth
  • Dry towel

Procedure:

  • Take the blunt knife to take out the excess crayon from the wall.
  • Now just rub the wall with an eraser Mr. Clean Magic, with the help of this eraser the crayon will come out easily.
  • If you do not have an eraser, you can use a mixture of detergent and water. Now rub the wall with this mixture until the stains come out.
  • After this entire process take a dry towel and wipe the wall gently.

Ink Stains on the Wall

Things Required:

  • Toothpaste
  • Soft cloth
  • Hairspray

Procedure:

  • If the ink stain is fresh, spray a hairspray on it and wipe it with a clean piece of cloth. This method will help to get rid of the stain immediately.
  • If the stain is still left on the wall, cover it with plain toothpaste and wipe it after 10 minutes.

Fingerprints on the Wall

Things Required:

  • Detergent
  • Lukewarm water
  • Soft piece of cloth
  • Dry towel

Procedure:

  • Apply a little detergent to the cloth wet the cloth slightly warm water.
  • Rub the cloth on the wall and then wipe the wall with a dry towel and clean it.

Tips:

  • When you start washing walls, always start from the top down.
  • To avoid water going down our arms, take an old pair of socks and, cut the toes and wear it on your hand, and crease it near your wrist.
  • Rubber gloves will protect your hands from the excess wetness. If the chemicals have a strong smell, then open all the windows and doors for ventilation.
  • Sometimes you also get make-up on the wall like eyeliner, in that case try GooGone. Take a wet piece of cloth and tenderly wipe the make-up lines.
