A PC that is custom built will have this program. To find out if the program is launched in your computer or not, you can consult the manual or look up the website of your motherboard.
- Some of the ASUS motherboards come with this function. If the manufacturer provided software is not there in your PC, then you can use the SpeedFan program for changing or controlling the speed of fan. This will be possible only if the motherboard supports the SpeedFan program.
- People who have made their own PC, or have not bought the motherboard supporting this particular feature; they will have to adjust the fan speed on BIOS.
Case Fans
- For the case fans, you will have to adjust them with the help of manual switch, which is built on the fan or it will be attached on the fan by a cord. Adjusting the case fan is very easy; it is just switching between the options you have that are high, medium and low. However, while you are doing this make sure that the PC is switched off before you make any further changes.
- Some of the motherboards will allow you to have the fan speed adjusted with the help of BIOS or with some program launched in Windows. This can be achieved through a process known as Pulse Width Modulation. This is very essential as it controls the amount of power that you will send to the fan for operating at the desired speed.

Therefore, if you find the exact model you will be able to research on it. Some of the models will have the tips written inside the user’s manual.

This is where you will get some of the basic settings of the computer. You can easily go in the BIOS by shutting down and restarting the computer, hit F10 on the keyboard. Now, you are in the BIOS and you can change the settings from the toggle dropdown menu or prompt. Once you are done, save it.
- Look if there is a chipset driver for a fan, which is installed in your laptop. If you find one, you can easily adjust the fan speed from there. The chipset is the control system of the fan, network adapters, video and sound controllers. Your will find these chipsets on the motherboard of your computer.
- The other option can be downloading the software for adjusting the speed of fan if you are not able to do it from the BIOS. Download the software SpeedFan for adjusting the speed of fan. If you are not able to download it, then you will have to buy it. However, before you buy it remember to check if it is compatible with your laptop or not.
- Make sure that you use the software carefully. If this program affects your laptop negatively then your manufacturer’s warranty will not cover it.
- If you are using Macbook or Apple laptop then you will have to download CoreDup Temp or smcFanControl. Both these programs will let you monitor or control the speed of fan and the temperature as well.
