Helicopters are one of the most amazing aircrafts, and the flying motion of these vehicles makes them more versatile. Helicopters have been around for more than a century now and there have been many modifications in the design of the helicopter. The latest kind of helicopter is the RC helicopter. These helicopters are flown by remote and the user will always operate them, so you must know how to control helicopter.
The hobbyists for entertainment or recreation purpose will mostly use RC helicopters. They are also used for aerial photography, policing or remote inspection. Here are some simple steps on how to control a helicopter.

RC indoor helicopter
- First, you will have to place the helicopter on a flat surface and lift it up with slight pressure on the throttle stick on the radio transmitter by moving the throttle in the forward direction.
- You will have to check the helicopter for any kind of spin movements when it is rising. When you lift the unadjusted RC helicopter, it will change the direction without inputting the rudder controls. It will constantly keep moving to the right or left direction without even going forward. You will have to trim the helicopter by using the trim control knob on the remote control for compensating the unwanted movements.
- Now, you must release the throttle slowly, pulling the throttle stick behind slowly for landing the helicopter back on the flat surface. You must adjust the trim control on your remote by moving the trim knob in the opposite direction of the turning movement of the helicopter. Start making small adjustments until it starts rising without moving in the place, pointing in one consistent direction with gaining altitude.
- Start pressing the throttle in the forward direction and move the rudder stick of the receiver from left to right for turning the tail of the helicopter and change the forward orientation. For increasing or decreasing the altitude of your helicopter, decrease or increase the amount of the throttle motion, by moving it forward or backward.
- Now, you must point the helicopter towards the direction where you want it to fly, and then increase the throttle at the same time while applying a little pressure on the rudder. The helicopter will start moving forward and curving in the direction of the rudder movement. For turns, you must center the throttle and press the rudder in the right or left direction.
RC helicopter
- The first thing you will have to do is charge the helicopter completely. The RC helicopter is attached with a wire on the remote control and charges from there itself. A full charge in the helicopter will ensure that you get the maximum flight time before you have to land it.
- Keep the controller on the left side position as if you are holding the controller with both your hands. Keep the RC helicopter on your right palm and make sure that there is ample space above your hand.
- Now, gently press the left side thumb stick. The stick is responsible for controlling the lift of your helicopter when you are flying it. It is necessary that you increase the strength of the lift very gently for ensuring that the helicopter does not start spinning out of control.
- You will have to straighten the helicopter by using the R and L button. Often for helping the helicopter to take off, it will start spinning in left or right direction. These buttons will help in straightening it out before you turn the thumb stick. You will have to press the button in the opposite direction and repeat if required until the helicopter continues to hover in place without spinning.
- You must use the thumb stick for controlling the turns of your helicopter, and the left side thumb stick for moving the helicopter forward, down or up. However, you must make sure that you do not apply too much of pressure or the helicopter will start moving faster and higher.
Tips and Warnings:
- Always remember that you must never fly the indoor RC helicopter with people or pets around. The rotor operates at a high speed, which can cause injury.
