Stepper motor is the most integral part of the computer robotics, drivers and the rotating antennas as well. Along with correct software configuration, you must know how to control stepper motor, which interacts with the attached device. Stepper motor is perfect for robotics, the larger the motor the ideal the robotics will be. There are various types of stepper motors, which have wiring number of coil, weight and size. The kind of stepper motor you use will always depend on the purpose you want to use it for. Here are some simple steps on how to control stepper motor.

Steps:
- First, you will have to connect the power supply and the stepper on the motor drive. You will need a single drive, if you are planning to control more than one motor. However, you can connect several drives on the same power supply DC, if you have enough current rating, which is enough for the needs of motor.
- Always remember that the step motor drive will come with two inputs direction and step. When the direction input becomes low and you apply the pulse on the step input, the drive motor will move one-step. If the direction input becomes high where the step pulse is received, the motor will start moving one-step in the opposite direction. The total number of the pulse will be determined by the distance the motor has moved. However, it is not a matter of just spewing a group of pulses, because the driver will attempt to move the motor in one-step every single time along with the real time incoming pulse. For smooth acceleration, you must allow it to travel a specified distance, slow down and then stop, the drive will need a signal source, which will output the precise time and count the stream pulse. This will be the job of the motion controller.
- This motion controller can range from being a stand-alone device, which can index the motor from a preset distance. This can be done when the switch contact can be close to a programmable unit, which can hold the motion routine in memory or when the PC is running the CNC machine software control. For moving two or more motors in a perfect manner, you must have a motion controller, which can have multiple axis linear interpolation or contouring.
- If you want to spin the stepper motor continuously at the same speed, you can easily get this with replacing the motion controller with one frequency pulse generator. This can be very simple like a circuit containing a 555 timer IC and a couple of capacitors and resistors.
