How to Create a Model Portfolio

A model, also known as a mannequin, is a personality who is appointed for displaying and advertising fashion clothing or any other brands, and for marketing or publicity reasons or for describing someone, who acts for the art works.

Modeling is very different from other kinds of public performance, such as acting, mimicking, dancing etc. Performing in films and theater is not considered as modeling. However, models are allowed to show their emotions in their pictures and many models portray themselves as actors.  Usually, models are not allowed to express themselves vocally, except to visually improve a picture.

  • First of all you will have to develop your own style. Before you start with the portfolio process, it is essential that you spend some time to gain some idea about what kind of pictorial modeling you want to do. There are many options available for this profession, such as high- fashion modeling, artistic modeling, commercial modeling, glamour modeling. If you want, you can purchase fashion magazines, or search for pictures on Internet to get some idea about the various styles of modeling.   It won’t take much time to get familiar with the various styles of modeling.
  • Look for photographers. In order to find a professional photographer for your portfolio, you can use your networking like friends, relatives, etc. You can also look for professional photographers on Internet sites. For example, www.medelmayhem.com.  On this website you find photographers, who are close to your area. They will provide you detailed information as well as contact details of each photographer. This site will also give you some sample photographs of each photographer. This site will help you to pick the photographer with whom you would like to work.
  • Get in touch with your chosen photographer. Once you have selected a photographer, use their contact information and get in touch with them. When you contact your photographer for the first time, do not forget to mention following information.

  • Note down all the details on a calendar or organizer so that you will be able to remember it.
  • Get in touch with a make-up artist and hairstylist to get a nice hairstyle. Most of the time you need a stylist to do your makeup and style your hair, to make you look your best for the photo shoot.  You can look for hair stylists on the Internet and can find them in your own area.
  • Get ready for a photo shoot. Take out you bag and put all the items which you require for the photo shoot like, shoes, clothes, heels, boots, accessories. If you are doing your own makeup, then don’t forget to carry you makeup kit and the hairstyle basics you will require.
  • On the day of your photo shoot, be sure to carry the proper address of the location if you have never been to that place. Remember to carry all the required items. You can also carry snacks with you, just in case if photo shoot is takes too long.  Make sure you sign on the photo release agreement before your shoot and go thorough it carefully and thoroughly.
  • Secure your photo shoot. You will receive your final photographs after 3 to 4 weeks of photo shoot. The printed size of you photographs will be of 8in x 10in. When you receive your photographs, keep it inside a photo organizer album to keep them confined and nice.
