How to Do a Burnout

A burnout is the art of keeping one’s vehicle in a stationary position while making its wheels spin, it causes the tires to produce smoke and get heated up due to the friction. Burnout is also known as power brake or peel out. Burnout is said to be originated from drag racing, where they practically drag the racing tires, they give a better performance at a high temperature. A burnout is the simplest way to increase the tire temperature.

Recently, burnout has become a very powerful form of competition. There are cars sponsored for this purpose and are specially built for a burnout known as burnout cars. These kinds of contests are very popular in North America and Australia. Burnouts have also gained show value and are a very famous part of informal street racing. This stunt is considered illegal in many countries. The winners of the NASCAR races perform burnouts to celebrate their success.

If one knows the right steps, burnout is very easy to perform. Here are some steps on how to do a burnout.

Steps:

  • To begin with push the rear brake, and then pull on the clutch. After you have done this, put it into first gear and slowly let the clutch go off. Look out for the clutch to engage.
  • Now step away from the rear brake. Travel at a very low speed and keep pulling the clutch at the same time, till the time you begin to hear the engine RPMs raise.
  • Before starting to look for a safe place to perform a burnout, look for an area where there is no one. Always make sure that the distance between your bike and people or objects is clear.
  • Take your bike to the location of the burnout and then mount your bike. Now place both your feet firmly on the ground and hold on to the front break tightly.
  • To switch to the second gear you will have to pull the clutch lever. This step will allow you to burn the tire for a longer time, and it will also protect you from rev limiter, and it will not cause any engine damage.
  • Now, slowly release the clutch till the time the motor is getting engaged. You will have to rev the power band of the motor, nearly 80 percent of the capability of the RPM of motor, which is very close to the red line.
  • Free the clutch in an aggressive but smooth manner. By this time the tire will start spinning. If the tire fails to spin, then give it some more power or release the clutch faster.

Tips and Warnings:

  • If you have a bike which has a low power, then you will have to bounce your bike by pressing the handlebars up and down, when you are standing on the bike. Once you get a good rhythm, let the clutch out instantly as soon as the front end of the bike is on the ground.
  • If you want to increase the amount of smoke while burnout, begin with your rear tire in water or a puddle.

Once you become an expert in performing burnout, start with some variations. Burnout is a dangerous trick and it should be performed with proper padding.
