Steps:
- First, you must start with a pencil and instantly make some basic shapes for your characters figure. You will have to break every part of the body into various parts, and draw basic shapes of oval, square, lines or curves for the character’s shape.
- You will have to decide the personality of your character. The personality of your character should match its characteristics. You can make any kind of character from friendly to grumpy, cowardly to brave, villain or hero.
- While drawing the character make sure that you keep the character standing in a correct position. If you draw a character with head down and hands inside the pocket, then this will define your character as shy. A character with a neat jaw line, broad shoulders and tall posture is someone, who is confident and brave.
- Make sure that you dress the character properly. You must know what kind of clothes will justify the nature of your character. If your character is a superhero then you will have to come up with some unique kind of costume. For a cool character cartoon dress him in jeans and funky T-shirt.
- You should consider some of the concealed effects like the certain kinds of shape that the character will have. If you make circles or curves, then the character will come off as friendly or innocent, triangles make the character look threatening. If your character is like a hero, then a square jaw line and a strong body shape character will signify your character well.
- Always make sure that your characters face is expressive. The eyes should be expressive enough to reflect the personality of your character. Eyes can be suspicious, thoughtful or confident. The face shape of the character is the most important feature as it indicates the age of your character. If you want to make a youthful face then draw a round face with bright big eyes. Mean faces usually are skinny and long with tiny eyes.
Once you have made the character, then take an ink pen or marker and darken the edges. Once you have made the border, you can fill in colors. You can use paint, markers or pencils for coloring or shading.
