Many times, it happens that your computer is not working well and you are not able to find out the reason for it. You will spend a lot of time as well as money on finding the cause of this problem. Whenever you are facing any problem with your computer, the values of the keys in your computer registry may have changed. The registry of a computer has all configurations of the hardware attached to your computer. Therefore, it is necessary to check the value of every key in the registry. Before starting the actual editing process, see to it that you make a backup of all the files in the registry. There are a few steps involved in the process of editing registry.
Here is a short description of how to edit registry system in your computer:
- For editing the registry, you need to open the Registry Editor first. For opening the Editor, go to the ‘Run’ button in the start menu. Click on it and type REGEDIT.
- After hitting the OK tab, a page will open which will contain files such as HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, HKEY_USERS, HKEY_CURRENT_USER and many more.
- Select these keys to open the files and the collection of all the application in these keys. You will see these values in these keys on the left hand side of the page. Select the file and you will see all the contents in the middle of the page.
- Select the key, which you want to edit and right click on the file.
- On doing that, you will see options such as Modify and Modify Binary Data. You can also delete the registry files by right clicking on the file.
- You can modify the registry files from the ‘Value data box’.
- If you want to change the path of the file, see to it that the new path that you have mentioned is correct.
- After you finish the modification of registry files, click on the OK button and Exit the Registry Editor.
For editing registry, see to it that utmost precaution is taken. If the value of any key or the path is incorrect, then your computer system will crash down and you will have to upload everything again. So avoid doing any modifications in the registry on your own. Follow proper guidelines and then edit the registry by using REGEDIT. You will also find many different editing software which will help in editing the registry. These software are very efficient and convenient to use. If you need to edit and modify the registry, you only need to run the registry in the software. The scanning, modification, and removal of unwanted files takes place automatically. If you need to edit registry but you are not computer savvy, it is better to take the computer to a computer repair shop for modifying the registry. However, you will have to pay a high price for repairing the registry at the repairing shop.
