  • Mayonnaise
  • Tweezers and utility knife
  • Extra strength glue or rubber cement
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape

Steps

  • Apply some mayonnaise on the burn while being careful not to spread it all the way in. leave it like this for five minutes and then scrape it off with your fingernails. A large portion of the burned spot will come off with the mayonnaise.
  • You can also use a utility knife to gently cut away the burned portion of your upholstery. You can also trim some fibers from other areas of the upholstery that not much visible and use them to cover the burnt spot. Be careful not to cut all the way to the backing; just cut the beginning of the fiber.
  • Apply some rubber cement or extra strength glue to the spot where you have taken out the burnt fabric and then attach each fiber one by one. Using a pair of tweezers will make this task easier.

Fixing a burn on wooden kitchen cabinets

  • Take a piece of extra fine steel wool, which you can easily find at a hardware or home improvement store.
  • Rub the burnt area with the steel wool gently to remove the blackened portion.
  • If the burn mark still remains, you can use a sand paper or medium grit and use it to sand the burnt area. After rubbing, use a fine grit sand paper to smoothen the rubbed area on the wooden surface.
  • Apply a thin coat of shellac to build up the surface of the kitchen cabinet. Keep on applying more coats until it is flush with the rest of the area. Remember to let the shellac dry between coats.
  • Now, match the color of stain on your cabinets and apply the stain in thin coats. Again keep in mind that you need to let the first coat dry before you apply the next coat.
  • Once the last coat has dried and the color has matched, apply a wax coat on the wooden cabinet to complete the process.
