Nintendo DS is a gaming console that offers a lot of new features. This handheld gaming console is sometimes abbreviated as NDS. Many advanced techniques are used in designing this gaming console. Sometimes you find it difficult to deal with problems that affect functioning of your DS console. Before you go for the replacement of your favorite console just try the following techniques which could fix the device. To fix any problems with your gaming console you have to identify the exact problem and know how to fix DS.
Fixing touch screen problems with DS
DS comes with a touch-screen. The main problems with the touch screen are because of unlicensed screen protector, improper contact of the touch screen with the housing or calibration problems. All these problems can be fixed within few minutes.
If you have calibration problem with your Nintendo DS, then recalibrate it following the steps below
- Step 1: Initially remove all the games from your console.
- Step 2: Now, start the console pressing the power button and press the A button while the message “touch the touch screen to continue” appears.
- Step 3: Place the cursor over the settings using the control pad and again press the button A.
- Step 4: Using the control pad place the cursor over the orange icon with cross icon over it and press the A button.
- Step 5: Tap the red square that appears on the screen, continue doing this each time the square moves.
- Step 6: When this process is completed four squares will appear, then click on the confirm button and wait for the confirmation message to appear on the screen and press quit and then yes to exit. You can also test the sensitivity of the touch screen before clicking the confirm button.
- Step 7: The system will automatically shut down and save the settings. Install the games and check the sensitivity of the touch screen now.
Sometimes we install screen protectors to our screen and then the sensitivity of the screen is decreased. This is because of the unlicensed screen protectors. In this case you will have to remove the screen protectors. Some protectors leave a black residue when removed; it is almost impossible to remove this residue and it sometimes damages the screen.
There may be improper contact of the hosing with the edges of the touch screen. It is because of the dust particles or any foreign particles in these corners. This can be fixed by cleaning the corners using a soft lint free cloth.
Tips:
- If you fail to tap all three positions of the red square then the test will continue to repeat.
- Only the bottom screen of the DS is the touch screen, do not use the upper screen as a touch screen.
- Always use a stylus to touch the screen.
If your system doesn’t recognize a new game inserted
- If your game card is not responding then first check whether the game card is inserted properly into the console. If not then remove the card and reinsert it. Check that there is proper power supply and the batteries are well charged.
- Nintendo DS also supports Game Boy Advance game. IF you want to play Game Boy Advance game and your DS not recognizing the game then probably the settings have been set to Automatic.
- The Game Boy Advance will not work if the Nintendo DS Game card is inserted. Therefore, you have to remove the Nintendo DS game card or hold the start button to select the Game Boy Advance game from main menu.
- Sometimes there may not be a port for link cable or wireless adapters; then you need to purchase the appropriate accessories and install it into your console.
- If you bought a new game and it is not working when inserted into the console then this may need to be replaced. To get your new game replaced contact the manufacturer of the game. If the game is manufactured by Nintendo then they offer replacement for the games purchased within 90 days.
Fixing power problems
- If you are experiencing power problems with your DS then check whether the inserted batteries are fully charged or charged enough to run the console. If not, change the batteries or charge the batteries and then insert them.
- Check all the connections of the console. If you are trained enough you can open the console case and also check the internal connections.
- Restart the console and see whether it functions properly now.
If the above techniques did not help solving your problems then get your console repaired from an authorized service centre.
