You can have a number of problems with your LCD TV. All these problems can be fixed with a little guidance. If you know how to fix LCD TV and the mechanism of a TV, then identifying the exact problem will be very easy and you will be able to fix the problem better and faster. You don’t have to replace the TV set if something goes wrong with it, fixing it on your own would be cheaper than that.
The first step towards repairing your LCD TV is reboot it i.e. turn off the main switch and check whether the plug is properly connected with the switch and there are no loose connections. Now, switch on your TV and see whether it functions properly.
If the problem is not fixed by this then go in the menu option of your television. Check if any of the settings have been changed by you accidentally. If you find that these changes in the settings are the cause of your problem then change these settings. - If your screen is pink or flashes or the audio system is not working properly then the problem is related with the DDC communication. To fix this problem, power up your system when all the HDMI cables are connected. If this doesn’t work then try using different inputs. If this also fails to fix your problem then install a DDC line condition. This will definitely solve your problem.
- If the picture comes and goes frequently, then either the TMDS channels are getting high bit rate error or not working efficiently or there is a problem with your DDC line. To fix this problem replace your cable with a better quality cable having larger diameter.
- If you see sparkles in the picture then there is a problem in the video data transmission. This may be due to the length or the quality of the cable. The length of your cable should not exceed 10 meters or else it may cause problems. Sometimes bad connectors are also responsible for such kind of problems. Identify the exact problem and either replace the cable or the connectors.
Fixing burns on LCD TV
- Screen burns leave a fixed image on the TV screen for too long. These images overlap with other images of the screen and make difficulty in watching the television. Because of these images sometimes an important piece of information appears blurred. This is called as the ghosting effect. You can fix this problem with your LCD TV yourself.
- To fix this problem, connect your computer to the LCD TV screen. You can follow the manufacturer’s instructions to this. If you don’t have guide to this, you can consult a TV repair centre.
- Now, create a blank white image in the image editing program of your computer. Set this image as the screen saver for your computer.
- Now, increase the TV’s brightness to the maximum level. Leave the entire set-up as it is till the burn remains.
- When the image burn vanishes, disconnect the computer. You will see that the burn of your screen has been fixed.
Fixing backlight problems
- This is the most common problem that most of us come across. Usually problems with the backlights are that they start leaking due to their continuous use. The backlight of TV is lit as long as the television is on. The crystals of the LCD are unable to block completely as a result of which we experience darker corners of the screen.
- You can solve this problem by adjusting the brightness level of TV screen. Set the brightness to lower level.
- Sometimes continuous use of an LCD TV causes permanent damage to the backlight of the screen. The backlight will become dim or go out completely. This problem is almost impossible to fix and you need to replace your television set. However, you will rarely experience this kind of problem with your LCD TV.
Fixing scratches
A number of methods are available to fix the scratches on the screen of your LCD television. Only if the scratches are light then you can fix them, deeper scratches can’t be fixed. Some of the methods to fix lighter scratches on your TV screen are listed below.
- Mix 50% of isopropyl with 50% of distilled water. Now take a micro fiber cleaning cloth and clean the screen properly with this solution. Use circular motions to clean the cloth and do not exert too much of pressure on the screen.
- Eraser and Vaseline can also be used to fix the scratches on the LCD screen. Rub a clean eraser on the scratch slowly. Now, wipe the scratch using a polishing cloth. Apply Vaseline to fill the scratch completely. Using a clean micro fiber cloth wipe out the applied Vaseline. You will see that the scratch is gone completely.
