The mostly used peripheral device of the computers is mouse. Mouse is used continuously as long as you are working with your computer system. It is easier to deal with any commands in the system with a single click; therefore a mouse is used more than the keyboard. Because of the continuous use a lot of users face problems like sticky mouse, worn out clicker and defects in the cable. They problems are easy to fix even at home if you know how to fix mouse. You need not replace the mouse every time you face some problem or call a professional to repair it.
Different methods can be followed to deal with different problems related to your mouse. Some of the methods are stated below:
Fixing a worn out clicker
- Remove the screws present at the bottom of the mouse using a screw driver.
- Now, remove top of the mouse using gentle pressure from the front side. The top is not attached using any screws it is just intended with the remaining part. You need to exert pressure as it is quite tightly attached.
- When you hold the removed portion upside down you will find that the buttons are held by springy plastic barbs. Remove the buttons from the barbs.
- You face a problem in clicking of the mouse due to the indentations caused due to continuous clicking.
- Using a nail filer you can file these indentations to prevent the actuators from being depressed so that the buttons are held properly in place.
- When you are done with this you can reassemble the mouse and enjoy clicking the mouse once again.
Fixing sticky mouse
- The lower surface of mouse or the ball becomes sticky because dust particles tend to cling to it due to their continuous use. This problem mainly arises with the mechanical mouse as they contain ball. Optical mouse does not contain a ball or any exposed parts so it requires little maintenance.
- Flip the mouse and rotate the locking ring to release the mouse.
- After releasing the mouse you can clean any accumulated dirt or dust particles using a cleaning agent and a piece of cloth. You can also use a tooth-brush to clean the mouse.
- If you find the corners sticky then you can clean them using toothpick, finger or any other tool that can easily reach and clean the corners.
- After you are done with the cleaning you can place the ball in the bearing and lock it to use it.
Fixing cable of mouse
- If you find that the cable of the mouse is damaged then you need to fix this problem by opening the mouse entirely and reassembling it. You need to have good knowledge of the internal structure of the mouse.
- Open the mouse and identify and unplug the defected cable. Separate the inset that attaches the cable with the mouse.
- After separating the inset from the wire, cut the portion of the wire that has been damaged. Now, remove the plastic coating/ insulating coat of the wire using a razor or any sharp device.
- When you see the wires, stop filing and attach the wires by welding it using a soldering gun with the part you separated initially.
- When the wire is repaired put the circuit board and all other parts in their place to reassemble the mouse.
You can also follow certain preventive measures for proper functioning. Clean the mouse regularly using cleansing agents that are available in the market. Before going for any fixing methods you can check for the connection of the mouse or use another mouse and connect it with your system to check whether it functions properly with your system. If nothing works you can go for the above fixing methods.
