The main reason behind nerves getting pinched off is the strain developed within them because of excessive stretching. When your nerve gets pinched off, circulation of blood through that nerve stops and you may have inflammation and spasm in that area. Pinched nerves also limit the movement of the organ in which they are caused. Knowing how to fix pinched nerve can reduce the strain and ease the pain.
A strain may be caused in your back, neck, hip, shoulder or arm due to the pinched nerve. If the strain is not severe you can follow certain home remedies given below to get relief from the pinched nerve.
- Initially you need to examine the area in which you are experiencing pain by rotating and pressing it slightly with your finger. Doing this, you will know the severity of the pain.
- You can try icing therapy to get relief from the strain. Take a piece of ice-cube and apply it on the affected area. You may also wrap the ice in a cloth and apply it. Repeat this process thrice or four times a day. This will help you ease the pain and give relief from pinched nerve by promoting proper circulation.
- Medicines also prove to be helpful in this case. You can use anti-inflammatory pills such as Ibuprofen or Aleave. These medicines prove to be effective in curing pinched nerve within few days. They may cause side-effects in some people; therefore, before taking any medicine make sure that the medicine suits you.
- Sometimes massaging the area will also help. Different types of medicinal oils are used for a massage. Massage proves to be very helpful and is being used traditionally to cure the pinched nerves. They cause no side effects leaving behind a soothing effect and relief from strain. Different techniques of message are followed to cure the pinched nerves in different areas.
- Acupuncture can also be use to cure a pinched nerve. You have to visit the acupuncture centers and get your pinched nerve treatment done. For this you may need to visit them frequently and have a few sessions of treatment.
- If the strain is too normal then it can be cured by simply pressing the sore area using a tennis ball or finger. Rotate or press the tennis ball slowly on the pinched area. Do not exert too much pressure on the sore area. Exerting too much pressure can sometimes complicate the case so, be careful that you are not increasing the pain.
- You can also use a bag of hot water to heat the affected area. These hot water bags are available in the medical stores. You need to add hot water to these bags and heat two to three times a day.
- You will also get a neck pillow or a cervical pillow for the pain in the neck and back. You can use them so that you get relief.
- You also get a door pulley traction device. This door pulley traction device is also a water bag that is used to exert pressure on the on the pinched nerve. More the water more is the pressure.
- While you are following any of the above treatments make sure that you are not engaged in any activities that increase the pain. Avoid lifting any heavy objects and make limited movement of the organs that have been affected.
- In severe cases or if the above treatments are not proving to be helpful you should consult a chiropractor, osteopath, physiotherapist or a surgeon. Your doctor will examine the strain and treat you accordingly.
- They may advice corticosteroid injections or physical therapy to cure major cases. In some cases doctors opt for surgery after following all the procedures of treatment. Surgery should be conducted in time so that it may not cause any major complications. Surgeries conducted for pinched nerve in the back or spinal cord is very major and complicated one.
