How to Fix USB

They come with different memory capacities. The only drawback with these USB drives is they are not completely secure, as we use them with different systems to exchange the data some bugs or viruses may affect them. You can fix these common problems yourself if you know how to fix USB.

Fixing USB

  • Most of the times your USB drive may get corrupted if you remove the drive from the port while the data is still being transferred. Wait until the data is completely transferred. When the data is transferred completely, open the files and check. You may receive a confirmation message that the data is transferred completely when the data transfer wizard has finished its task.
  • To stop the hardware device, click on the icon of the device on the status bar of your desktop. A window will pop up listing the USB drive in it, select the device and click on the stop button. Clicking on the stop button will prompt a message that “it is now safe to remove the USB device”. Now, you can unplug the device from the port.
  • If still your USB drive is getting corrupted then you need to scan your drive. To scan the drive, right-click on the icon of drive and go to properties, in properties select the tools tab and click on check now. This will check for any possible errors.
  • If nothing helps you, then formatting your USB is the only option. Formatting the drive, you will lose all the data from your USB drive. To format your drive, right-click on the removable disk icon and select format the drive option. You can then scan your drive for fixing all the errors. In the window that shows up, in the File system drop down list, you have two options FAT and FAT32. Select the appropriate file format option and select the quick format option. Finally click on the start button and all the data along with the errors is deleted permanently from the drive.

Tips

  • Each time you are about to connect or detach a USB drive from your system, scanning the device with proper antivirus, locate any possible bugs and fix them.
  • While you are formatting your device to check the file format, right-click on the device and go to the properties, in general tab you can view the File format.
  • If above methods do not help you fixing your device, get it fixed from a software or hardware professional.
  • If this also doesn’t help then buy a new device.

Fixing USB port

Sometimes the problem is not with the USB device but the USB port, so you need to fix this problem. To fix it go through the following steps

Step 1: Go to “control panel” and select “device manager”.

Step 2: In device manager, select the “Universal Bus Controller” option. Remove all items from it, to remove the items click on the item twice.

Step 3: Now, go to “driver” tab menu. Click on “uninstall” button. This will open a window displaying a warning message asking for confirmation. Click on “Ok” button and delete the devices. Delete all the devices under the universal bus controller repeating the same process.

Step 4: Reboot the system when you are done with deleting all the devices.

Step 5: Now, you can connect your USB device to the system and check whether the system works properly now.

You are advised to use this technique if your system is not detecting the device, as in this case most of the time the problem is with the universal bus controller and not the USB port.
