How to Fix Windows

Microsoft comes with a variety of operating systems such as windows 2007, windows XP, windows vista, Windows 7, etc. Many problems arise while installing these operating systems and after their installation. You can troubleshoot these problems if you know how to fix windows through minimum effort and proper direction. Different problems require different fixing methods which are discussed below.

If your computer is not turning on

  • When you start your computer and no light appears at the CPU, it is because of loose connections.
  • Check the connection of the power cord, disconnect and reconnect it. You can also check by connecting other devices to the power cord removing the computer connection.

If your system gets hanged

  • It may happen sometimes that you are running a program  and your system hangs suddenly or stops responding to any of the commands. This occurs because of too many processes running simultaneously, some viruses or CPU fan not working properly.
  • This problem can be fixed by following two simple steps
  • Step1: Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. This will pop up a message box.
  • Step 2: Now click on the unwanted applications in this window and click on END TASK button.

Fixing logon problems

  • If you are facing a problem in opening any programs, but you have logged on successfully then there is a logon problem with your system.
  • To fix this problem press and hold SHIFT key until you are able to see the taskbar and desktop immediately after clicking the logon button or typing your password. This will prevent running of the programs automatically that are causing problem.
  • When you have logged on you can delete these programs.

Fixing startup problems

Sometimes windows begins to load and stops responding at the time of startup process (screen goes blank). This occurs because of a corrupted system file, a new program or some hardware problem. You can troubleshoot this problem following simple steps.

  • Step 1: Restart your computer immediately when such a problem arises. After restarting the system press F8 key.
  • Step 2: When you press F8 key windows advanced options menu appears. In this menu go to last known good configuration and press ENTER button on your keyboard. This will start the windows.
  • Step 3: If you have installed any new hardware then shut down the system and disconnect the hardware and restart the system.
  • Step 4: Repeat steps 1 and 2 but this time select Safe mode option and press ENTER to start windows in safe mode. Starting windows in safe mode will prevent starting of programs automatically.
  • Step 5: If your system starts properly in safe mode you can remove any recently installed programs and restart your system normally.

If these methods are not proving to be helpful you can solve this problem by reinstalling windows operating system going to boot menu and performing required steps of installation.

Fixing hardware problems

  • If you don’t see the start-up screen when you start your system or an error message displays then there is a hardware problem with your system. There are many types of hardware problems.
  • If your computer beeps but does not display anything then check whether monitors power cord is connected, check the connection of the monitor with the CPU cabinet. If everything is alright but still your monitor beeps then you will have to fix the video adapter of the computer taking it to a service centre.
  • There may be a problem with the compatibility of the newly installed hardware. This also creates trouble in starting the windows. So check the compatibility of the hardware you are installing with the system and then install. If you have installed any new hardware and you are experiencing problem in starting your computer then remove the hardware device and restart the system.
  • If you want to install any new hardware, check whether proper drivers are present with the operating system to support the hardware device installed. If not, first install the drivers.
  • Before connecting any hardware device with your computer you can check its compatibility. To check its compatibility with your computer, disconnect all the hardware devices except mouse, keyboard and monitor and connect the hardware device and start your computer. If the computer starts successfully then the hardware devices is compatible with the computer or else get a proper replacement.
  • Sometimes there is a problem with the connectors. The connectors may be loosely connected. To fix this problem shout down your system and turn off the main switch and look for loose connections and replace the loose connectors.
  • If your computer still does not work then switch off the main switch and disconnect all the connections of the CPU and open the case. Disconnect and reconnect all the buses, memory card, motherboard, etc and close the cabinet and see whether the computer starts now.
  • If still your system does not start then you will have to take it to a servicing centre or hardware professional.

Fixing disk errors

  • If you see an error message like “non system disk error “or “disk error” then probably your system is unable to find the Windows operating system.
  • This happens because your computer starts to load Windows from removable media rather than hard disk.
  • To fix this problem remove any CDs, DVDs, USB flash drives, etc from your system and check whether your computer starts properly now.
  • If still such error comes then your hard disk may be corrupted. To fix this problem you will have to perform a repair installation for your operating system.
  • If this is also not proving to be helpful then your hard disk has to be replaced. Get it replaced from the hardware professional.
