Weather forecasting is a method used for predicting the state of atmosphere for the future, of a specific location. Weather forecast is conducted by gathering all the quantitative data of the current state of atmosphere with a little scientific understanding, for projecting the way nature is evolving. These days you don’t have to rely on specific scientific sources to learn how to forecast weather. The nature will give you ample signals regarding the changing weather.
Here are some simple steps on how to recognize those signals for forecasting the weather.
- Pink or red morning sky or sun: Storming or rains are likely. If there is high sky humidity then it will make the atmosphere red.
- Pink or red evening sky or sun: There is no chance of rain or storm for the next 24-36 hours.
- Breakfast rainbows: The rain will approach soon. These are rainbows that appear only in the mornings, but they will never follow a storm. These rainbows are not a visual indication of the increased humidity in the high atmosphere.
- Teatime rainbows: Storming or rain is likely. The humidity will not be enough to cause precipitation.
- Gray morning sky: If there is a grey sky then there are no chances of storm or rain. Graying happens because there is a sudden shift in the ground moisture leading into the lower sky.
- Gray night sky: Storming or raining is most likely in such a situation. Evening gray happens when the humidity in the high sky is enough to trap the colored particles in a condensed form and create a haze.
- Rising morning haze or mist: In such situations it will not rain. The atmosphere right above the ground is dry and warm, causing haze or mist to evaporate.
- Low sitting clouds: There is a possibility of storming or rain. Clouds start coming down once their water content increases.
- High sitting clouds: It will not storm or rain, because the water content in the clouds is very low.
- Little or no morning dew: There are high chances of a storm. Dry plants and grass in the morning will indicate that the condition of the wind has elevated in recent hours. Strong winds are always associated with storming. If you notice morning dew, it is not likely to rain.
- Silence: If the environment is pretty calm, this is an indication that there will be a storm. If you don’t see any ambient, bird or wind sounds then this indicates a bad weather forecast.
- Increase in environmental odor: Storm or rain is most likely. The plant life starts reacting to the natural indications of weather. When the storm comes close, you will notice that people are saying, “It smells like rain.” People are smelling nothing but a subtle blend of botanical excitement. All the non-flowering plants, like trees and grass, start emitting a mild foul odor as they release their waste in bulk. Swamps, meadows and marshes release methane at a very nauseating pace. Flowers start releasing more fragrance than they normally do. Therefore, you will always notice a difference between the early spring rain and mid-summer rain. The addition of all the summer flowers freshen the musky odor from the spring rain.
- Animals: If you notice the cattle grazing normally, the weather will be perfect. A huddled group of cows will indicate that the storm is upon you. Cows will always huddle on the ground to protect one another from the storm.
- Falling smoke: Storming or rain is most likely. When you notice smoke from a camp-size fire rise up in the air, peaks and it is moving horizontally without any wind, then this indicates low pressure and storm.
- Hazy or clear moon: There is no sign of storm or rain then. Haze is just an indication of dust and moisture that is trapped inside the high atmosphere. If there is clear moon then it may rain. There will be an area with low pressure that has sucked all the moisture and dust from below and is giving a clear view of the moon.

- These are some of the traditionally accepted indicators of the impeding weather. However, try these methods to forecast the weather and cross check with professionals, just to make sure that you are on the right track.
