The food stamps program is a common name of “United States Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program” (SNAP).   • The food stamps are benefit funded by “federal government”.

  • The eligibility for applying food stamps is, the members of your family should have community security numbers. You have to be a citizen of United States, or you need to fulfill the particular criteria of non- citizen.

  • The resources of food stamps are limited. Your family members should not have cash more than $2,000, other property, or bank accounts. Your land and home property does not count for this limit. If you have a member in your family who is more than 60 then the limit goes to $ 3,000.

  • Remember that the number of food stamps you are qualified for completely depends on your monthly domestic income and expenses.
  • Go to any local food stamp office or your local “federal social security” office and get an application form. You can also fill it right there if you entire family member is applying for social security Income (SSI)

  • Take your identification proof with you to the federal office. For identification proof you required, proof of income, social security numbers, expenses and benefits, and medical prescriptions or bill if any of you family member is above 60.

  • Obtain precedence processing if you are homeless.

  • Wait for your food stamps; you will receive it within a month of your application, if you fulfill entire criteria of getting foods stamps.

  • You might become certified for food programs: “WIC” (food for nursing and pregnant ladies and children below the age of five), Nutrition Program for the Elderly (food for citizens more than age of 60,  offered at local “senior centers” and from “Meals on Wheels”), Food Distribution Programs (for poor families), Child and Adult Care Food Programs (accessible at adult and child day care centers), School Lunch and Breakfast Programs (free or cheap foods at schools for children) and Summer Food Service Program (food and snacks for children).
