Memory is considered as a life form which has the ability to accumulate, preserve and remember information. Philosophy was the only field where the study of memory began it also taught the techniques, of increasing someone’s memory artificially. In recent times, philosophy has become an important branch of science. Learning is the gaining of knowledge, and memory is the restoration of this knowledge.

There are three important phases of memory:

  1. Sensory memory:  sensory memory is the ability to remember or memorize anything that you have just seen a second before.
  2. Short-term memory: this type of memory permits you to remember a few minutes or seconds about an event.
  3. Long-term memory: in long term memory the data or information is stored for a long time with detailed information. It can store infinite amount of information.

It is always good to remember something’s like your best friend’s birthday, but the major problem is not everyone has a sharp memory. There are a few ways by which you can improve your memory, and with passing time you can have the skill to memorize every possible thing.

Here are a few easy ways by which you can improve your memory:

  • There are many people who are convinced that they don’t have a good memory, they can’t remember anything and they just keep on forgetting things. Get rid of the demoralizing thoughts and try to improve your memory. Always encourage yourself that you have a good memory and it will certainly improve.
  • Give a try to some puzzle games daily like crossword, sudoku and a few others practice these puzzles everyday for at least 30 minutes. These games help you to exercise your brain which in turn improves your memory.
  • Do not take a lot of stress, constant stress causes brain damage and memorizing can be difficult. Try not to stress yourself so much, keep exercising on a regular basis. Exercise like yoga helps a lot.
  • There are many herbal medicines available in the market but do not opt for them because they have no effect. Always have a well nutritious diet, it works as a tonic to the brain, eat foods which are rich in antioxidants like spinach, broccoli, blueberries and berries.
  • We forget things not because we have a bad memory but we are not good observers. We usually forget the names of people whom we meet for the first time. To increase your memory you can try this simple exercise. Take an unknown photograph and observe it for a little while and now, keep the photo aside and try to pen down the details of the picture. Repeat this exercise everyday and you will come to know the changes yourself.
  • Whenever you are trying to memorize something avoid any kind of disturbances and concentrate hard enough to remember that thing. It is easier to remember if you are able to imagine it. Make the images in your mind as interesting as possible so that it is easier to remember it.
  • Keep all your essential things at the same place everyday such as keys, wallet, and eyeglasses. It will become easier for you to recollect.
  • Meditation is a good way to help you concentrate and also store your memory. “Mindfulness” is a type of meditation which is very useful in having a better memory. It is practiced in many western countries.
  • Have a good sleep. The quantity of sleep determines the brain’s ability to recollect things.
