A Bluetooth is a wireless protocol, which is used for the exchange of data over a short distance. This is done with the help of short length radio waves from a set mobile device. It also creates a personal area network (PANs). The idea of Bluetooth was thought of as an alternative wireless to the RS-232 data cables. It has the capability to connect many devices together, and overcome the problem of synchronization.
The Bluetooth application is there in many products like telephones, playstation3, PSP Go, the Wii and Lego Mindstrome NXT. Bluetooth is also used in some of the watches, which have a high definition, headsets and modems. The technology of Bluetooth is useful when the transfer of information takes place in two or more devices, which are close to each other with a low-bandwidth. In telephones, Bluetooth is used for the transfer of sound data and in computers for byte data.
The protocols of Bluetooth are a great help to simplify the setup and the discovery of some services interconnecting different devices. The Bluetooth device has the option to advertise all the basic services they provide. This option gives better service and using them is easier due to the security, permission configuration and the network address can be easily automated with other types of network.
A Bluetooth in a computer needs an adapter in order to communicate with other devices of Bluetooth. Now there are many laptops, and computers that come with built in Bluetooth adapter, other computers will require an external adapter known as ‘dongle’. One can easily install a Bluetooth in their computer. Here are a few simple steps on how to install Bluetooth.

Steps:
- Before starting the installation process check whether your computer is Bluetooth enabled or no. For this you will have to go to the ‘control panel’ of your computer and look for the icon of the Bluetooth. If you are able to find the icon, then your computer has a Bluetooth receiver.
- Now, install a Bluetooth adapter. The Bluetooth adapters are normally plugged in the standard USB port. If you want the Bluetooth adapter to function properly, then you must install some drivers and management programs. These programs usually come in CDs, which are bundled up with the adapter.
- Put the computer on Bluetooth discovery mode. This mode will enable the computer to find Bluetooth devices, and this is the first step to form a Bluetooth enable personal area network (PAN). However, the way to enable this will be different depending on the type of adapter. This is a long process, which usually involves opening the computer Bluetooth and then looking for a ’search for devices’ option. You can find this utility in the ‘programs’ menu in the menu of the adapter or in the control panel if your computer is Bluetooth enabled.
- Now, activate your Bluetooth earpiece. Most of the headsets are activated with a blue power button, which has to be pressed twice to activate it. However, some of the high-end models have a different protocol. Therefore, it is better to study the owner’s manual carefully.
Confirm the link of network. Once your computer has detected the Bluetooth headset, a message window will open on your computer screen, and will ask you to set a link between the headset and computer. Click on the ‘OK’ button to confirm this connection. You can test this program by voice chat or calling a friend. You can also start the windows voice recorder to check if the microphone has picked up your voice.
