The term brush usually refers to filaments, wires or bristles. It is mainly used for various purposes like make-up, cleaning and painting. The most common way of setting the bristles in the brush is by stapling it or one anchor setting the brush. There is also one more way to fix the bristles in the brush, in which the bristles are fused with the surface. Brushes that are used for the purpose of cleaning are available in various sizes. They start from the size of a toothbrush to a dustpan-accompanied brush of 36 inches. One can also find brushed for cleaning small cracks and crevices, and brushes for cleaning large warehouse floors. Brushes can perform many cleaning tasks. There are brushes for cleaning vegetables, toilets, sanding doors and finishing tiles.
The paintbrushes are mainly used for the application of paint or ink. These brushes are often made with clamped bristles and a handle with ferrule. The brushes with short handles are used for watercolor painting or to paint with ink. The long handled brushes are used for acrylic or oil paint. There are many styles in paintbrushes like round, flat, bright, filbert, fan and angle. GIMP and Photoshop also have various kinds of brushes, but before you start using them you must install them. Here are some simple and easy steps on how to install brushes.

How to install brushes in GIMP

Steps:
- If you are planning to install brushes, which you already have in the folder, then go to step six. If you are looking for some brushes that you want to install, then look for them in ‘DeviantArt’.
- Right click on the file that you want to install.
- Now, go to the start menu and choose ‘my computer’. In ‘my computer’, go to the folder of C Drive. After this go to ‘Program’ files, then GIMP; open the folder ’share’ and in the end ‘brushes’ folder. Right click on the ‘brushes’ folder and choose paste.
- If you have already opened the GIMP folder and you do not want to restart your computer then simply refresh the installed brushes. To refresh click on the box of dialogs, which you will find in the tool bar on top of your screen, and then choose the option brushes.
- Now, you can click on the refresh icon.
- Save all the brushes that you have directly added in the brushes folder. Click on the file and choose the ’save as’ option’; a window will open, which will ask you to save the image.
- Give a name to your image; make sure that you include the type of file at the end of the name.
- Choose the folder in which you would like to save the image. The list of folders will appear on the left side. To go to the brushes folder, you must follow this path: C drive, program file, GIMP, 2.0 and brushes.
- Select add option on the bottom of the window on the left side. This way you will not have to go through the entire process. Next time you will just have to click on the folder and then save it.
- Click on the ’save’ option and now you are done. Refresh the brush try, so that you can start using all the brushes.
