How to Do Things

Cydia is an application, which is used for iPhone OS and other software applications. It lets the user download and browse through applications. Jay Freeman, who is also known as saurik, developed Cydia. It gives the best user friendly graphical user interface, especially for software with open source installation, which was originally developed for Linux. The software packages, which can be downloaded free of cost, are allowed by Cydia’s repositories. It also has a Cydia store, which gives many applications for sale. One can download paid or free software packages on their iPod or iPhone devices, to the similar location of the pre-installed applications of Apple.

The name Cydia is named after the bug Cydia Pomonella. Cydia also allows the users to add some custom sources and APT that allows the users to download the location of their package. If one has jailbroken their iPhone (jailbreaking is to modify your phone system files, which enables you to install programs, and themes.) here are a few steps on how to install Cydia through the jailbreaking process.

Things Required:

• Jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch with cydia installed in it.

Steps:

• Press on the icon of Cydia and the main page of Cydia will open up. On this page there will be many important information, like the list of pay applications, FAQs, and some how to articles.
• The next step will be to browse through the products or packages in Cydia, which is available tapping on the screen on the ‘sections’ option. A list of categories will open up.
• If you press on the option of all packages, you will see the available list for you, but there will be thousands. It always a better option to go through the sections and find the suitable package for you.
• Then press the search button, which appears at the bottom of the Cydia screen. A screen will appear that will have a search box at the top. Tap the field to get the keyboard. Enter the ‘bossprefs’ in the search box and press on the search option.
• A detailed screen for ‘bossprefs’ will open. With so many packages, scroll down and look for additional information. You can also see a changelog, which helps you to see the changes in different versions of different packets. If you wish to install this package, there will be an install button on top of the screen click on it.
• A confirmation will appear on the screen, which will show you the size of the package that you will be installing. To continue the installation process click on the confirm option.
• A black screen will appear with words going across it. Do not worry about that, when the process of installation is complete, a button will appear with two options ‘return to Cydia’ or ‘restart springboard’. You will have to exit the Cydia application and restart the springboard applications.
• Go back to the home page of iPhone and you will see an application installed. Look for BossPrefs down in the right side bottom corner on my attached screen shot.
• Once you have checked it go back to the Cydia application and click on the manage button. Three options will appear, storage will give you information about available space for more applications. Sources it will allow you to add more sources or locations. Go through the tips for additional information. Click on the edit option to install more additional sources.   
• The packages option will show you what is currently installed on your iPhone. Most of the packages that you see are installed by jailbreak.  

Browse through all the different sections and go through it properly.
