Microsoft DirectX is a group of ‘application programming interfaces’ or ‘APIs’, for supporting programs associated to multimedia, particularly ‘game applications’ and video, on ‘Microsoft platforms’. Initially, these APIs were denoted by Direct, such as ‘Direct3D’, ‘DirectDraw’, ‘DirectMusic’, ‘DirectPlay’, ‘DirectSound’ and so on.
The term DirectX was invented as a shorthand word for these APIs and shortly turned into the name of the group. Later, when Microsoft began to produce a gaming console, then the X was used as the foundation of the name ‘Xbox’ to specify that the gamming console was formed on the DirectX technology.
The initial ‘X’ has been carried forward as the name of APIs, which was designed for the Xbox, like ‘XIput’ and the Cross podium ‘Audio Creation Tool’ (XACT). The DirectX sample has been sustained for Windows APIs like Direct2D and Direct Write.
Direct3D is usually used in the production of video games for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Xbox and Microsoft Xbox 360. Direct3D is commonly used for software programs like ‘visualization’ and graphics programs such as ‘CAD or CAM’ manufacturing. Direct3D is the most commonly advertised factor of DirectX, it is very common to find the names ‘DirectX’ and ‘Direct3D’ used interchangeably. If you want to install Directx on your computer, then you just have to follow the following instructions.
Instructions
- Find DirectX download software. Go to the web browser and you will find many sites on Google, which will connect you to a DirectX page. Although, these sites are not similar. The best way to avoid ‘Spyware’ or Trojan horses on the Vista system is to open the site which you consider safe. For example, ‘CNET’ has a huge collection of games, utilities and applications which are ‘virus’ and ’spyware’ free.
- Select the tab marked ‘Downloads.’ Next to the CNET tab should be the term ‘download.com.’ Once you have finished that, remember there is a search window right next to those two words. Click on that.
- Write in ‘DirectX 9,’ ‘DirectX 9.0′ or ‘DirectX 9.0c’ in the ‘Search’ bar at the top of the page. You may notice some games that are in an extremely huge box. Skip those links because they are funded by third-parties. Scroll down until you notice unboxed ‘DirectX’ hyperlinks; you will get everything on those sites.
- Download the Directx software. On the first web page, you will find a small box saying ‘Microsoft DirectX’ and a number such as ‘June 15, 2009′, it is ‘9.26.1530′. Press on that tab and start downloading this edition or you can boot a previous edition if you want to by pulling down the menu and picking up the edition you want.
- Ask Vista to ‘Allow’ the program to run. Vista has a default security quality which will ask you if you will permit it to proceed. When the download is finished, you will have to double-click it to start setting up; a dialog box will appear on your computer screen requesting your permission to allow running this program. Click on ‘Allow’ for this program to run.
Tips and Warnings
- The other way to install DirectX 9 on your computer is to choose a game which is based on graphics and which has been launched in the recent past, such as ‘Need for Speed: Most required.’ Most recent games have DirectX 9 mounted on the disc, and they will ask you repeatedly after booting the game if you want to set up DirectX 9.0c on your computer.
- Internet Explorer will inform you about the security process. It will protect you from booting any harmful files. If you receive this option, you will have to allow it to boot the file manually by ‘right-clicking’ on the warning and picking up ‘Download File.’ You might have to download the file again after giving permission.
