Pottery is the product of ceramic used by potters. There some major types of pottery like the stoneware, earthenware and porcelain. The place where all these kinds of potteries is made is known as the ‘potteries’. Pottery is considered as one of the oldest from of arts known to humans, and it is a major part of the society. The term ceramic art also includes the famous art of pottery. Pottery is usually made by the formation of a clay body into objects of desired shape and then heating them to a particular temperature. The pots are heated in a kiln to increase the chances of reaction, which can lead to permanent changes and increases their durability. The type of clay varies in every region, and this leads to the production of unique and one of a kind pot. It is a very common thing for the minerals and clay to mix for the formation of various clay bodies that suite only to a specific condition.
The pots are shaped after the air from the clay body is completely taken out. This process in known as the de-airing and can be done manually or through vacuum. Once all the air from the clay body has been taken out, then it is shaped before they fire it. There are many stages in the entire process of drying. Some of the clay objects, which are not fired, are known as ‘greenware’. Any clay body at this particular stage is very delicate and has higher chances of breaking easily. Making pottery is a good way to pass time and to increase your creative output. Learning how to do pottery is not very difficult. Here are some simple steps that will teach you how to make blue pottery.

Things Required:
- Clay
- Table covered with newspaper
- Sandpaper
- Sponge
- Container with water
- Paintbrush
- Blue acrylic paint
- Pencil
Steps:
- Start with the pinch pot technique; pull a hand-sized piece of clay and roll it carefully in your palms. Roll it until it turns into a smooth and spherical shaped clay ball. Place this ball on the tabletop and press it gently to flatten the base of this ball. Press the clay with one thumb placed in it. Make a hole at the base of the clay, but make sure that you do not make a hole on the other side as well.
- Place the fingers of your left hand on the edges of the clay and place the right thumb inside the hole. Now, place your left fingers inside the hole and move your right fingers along the edges. Take the clay, hold it in one hand, and start pressing the clay towards the outside with the other hand. Keep rotating the clay until it is of even shape.
- To add some height to your clay ball use the technique of coiling. Roll the piece of clay in sphere. Put the piece of clay on tabletop and roll it back and forth until you get a perfect spherical shape. Move your hands up and down to make an even sphere shape. Try to get an even thickness throughout the coil.
- Start pulling the coil along the rim and take the extra clay out. Now, take the coil and press it gently on the pinch pot. Take your thumb and place it on the inside; start pushing the clay downwards. Make this connection in a smooth and seamless manner.
Now, take sandpaper and rub it on the pottery to get rid on any bumps on your pot. Wet a sponge and use it for cleaning the dust. Allow the pottery to dry for sometime. Take a paintbrush in some blue acrylic paint and start painting the pottery. Paint the pottery from all the sides, but remember that you should not paint the bottom. If you want to make some design on your pot, then lightly sketch with a pencil on your pot. Paint the designed area in some other color.
