Bread pudding is a well-liked dessert in Argentina, Louisiana Carole, Belgian and Southern United and in British cuisine, Mexican cuisine, French cuisine and Puerto Rican cuisine. The Belgians call it as Broodpudding or Bodding it exactly means Bread Pudding. The English just call it pudding they never use the word bread. It is also called as ‘‘Migas’’, ‘’Pudin de Pan’’ and “Capirotada”. The traditional bread pudding is prepared by using left over or stale piece of bread with, egg, suet, golden syrup, sugar, dry fruits and spices.
The basic preparation method is to soak the bread piece overnight, squeeze it dry and then mix it properly with the remaining ingredients. After this, the mixture is placed in the oven and baked.

Bread pudding is best served with sweet sauce like caramel sauce, rum sauce and whiskey sauce. However, most people prefer eating it with sugar, which is cold and cut up in squares. The Malaysians prefer eating bread pudding with custard sauce. The Vanilla Cream Dressing on bread pudding is served in Hong Kong.
You can make a variety of bread pudding at your home as well. Let us see the two different recipes of bread pudding.
Ingredients:
- 6 slices of bread
- 2 eggs
- 3 cups of milk
- 50gms butter
- 1/3 cup of castor sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla essence
- 1/4 nutmeg powder
Procedure:
- Take a baking dish preferably of rectangular shape and apply butter to the entire dish.
- Remove the bread crusts and cut it into four rectangular pieces. Now apply butter to each piece only on one side.
- Now place these bread slices in the baking dish. Make sure that the buttered side of the bread should be down. The pieces should overlap each other.
- Take the dry fruits and sprinkle it on the bread top with only half sugar. Now the remaining slices should be arranged on top of the previous slices. The buttered slice must face up.
- Mix the remaining sugar with nutmeg and now dust it over the bread slices. Beat the eggs and mix it with vanilla essence and milk. Pour this mixture over the bread slices and let it soak for nearly 30 minutes.
- Before baking the slices preheat the oven. Now put the slices in the oven and let it cook until they turn golden brown in color.
- Serve the bread pudding when warm with cream, custard or caramel.
Chocolate Bread Pudding.
Ingredients:
- 1 loaf of bread
- 350 ml milk
- 445 ml cream
- 3 egg yolks
- 3 whole eggs
- 100g sugar
- 100g chocolate (chopped)
- 1 cup sugar
- pinch of salt
Procedure:
Preheat the oven at 150 degrees, now cut all the bread loaf into quarter slices. Put the slices into a bowl. Meanwhile, take cream and milk and heat it on a medium flame over the stove. Add a pinch of salt and chopped chocolate to the mixture, when you see that the mixture has started boiling. Stir the mixture continuously and remove it of the stove. Take the egg yolks and whole eggs with sugar in a bowl and mix it properly.
Add very little chocolate sauce that you just made to the egg mixture and mix it thoroughly. Now mix this mixture with the remaining sauce. Next, you have to strain the sauce from a strainer. Take the remaining chopped chocolate, sprinkle it over the bread, and let it soak for 10-15 minutes.
Pour the bread mixture in the buttered oven dish and bake it for 40 minutes. After 40 minutes just check if the pudding is ready. You can do this by piercing a knife in the center of the pudding. If there is any chocolate stuck to the knife then let it cook for some more time. After its ready take it out from the oven and cut it into rectangular pieces. You can serve this pudding hot or cold with cream, caramel sauce, raspberry sauce.
