Mattel a toy making company was the first manufacturer of slime. It hit the markets in the winter of 1976 and was a hit. Slime is a viscous, oozing green liquid material usually made from guar gum and is sold in a plastic thrash can. Slime has been released in various ways over the years including, with assorted rubber insects, rubber human parts and even board games. In this article we will see how slime can be easily made at home.
Ingredients required:
- 10 cups of craft glue
- 10 cups of water
- 10 cups of borax solution (this can be picked up at your local store, usually found in the detergent section)
- food coloring (any color you like, you could also use glow paint for glowing slime)
- bowl for mixing the ingredients
Method One:
Gather all your required supplies. Mix borax with water in a jar and keep mixing till no more borax dissolves. In a separate bowl mix together some water and glue until you find yourself with a watery and cohesive solution. Add the food coloring to the water – glue mixture. Slowly mix the Borax solution with the water – glue solution and watch as it turns to slime. For different colors of slime make separate batches of water – glue solution and add different food colorings to it before mixing it with the borax solution. Borax is toxic and should not be consumed or inhaled in anyway. Keep borax away from pets and children. But this could also make the solution toxic depending on the type of paint used, so be careful.
Ingredients required:
- 10 cups of craft glue
- 10 cups of flour
- food coloring (any color you like, you could also use glow paint for glowing slime)
- bowl
- air tight seal able plastic bag to mix ingredients
Method Two:
Gather all your supplies. Pour the flour into the plastic bag (you can only do this in batches unless you have an uber huge plastic bag, if you do, best of luck mixing the ingredients in that.) Now pour about one fourth the amount of water into the bag. Put in some drops of food coloring along with the water. Now slowly and carefully exhale the excess air out from the plastic bag and seal it up. Knead the plastic bag until the mixture blends and looks and feels smooth. Careful, do not to puncture the bag! The advantage of this slime is that it would not be toxic. It still isn’t a good idea to eat it but at least it is safer than borax. This method is also very useful during parties when you have a lot of little kids around. Make preparations early and pass around a bag to each kid. Demonstrate once and the kids are sure to have loads of fun! Using glow paint will make the slime glow after being exposed to light for a while. But this could also make the solution toxic depending on the type of paint used, so be careful.
