You may have come across the term CBR files many times while reading comics. CBR is the name for Comic Book Archive Files. These are types of archive files used to view the images in comic books in a sequence. CBR files are files consisting of several compressed image files in a series. These image file format can be JPG, GIF or PNG files. These CBR files are saved typically in RAR format. However, it might happen that a CBR file is not opening on your computer. - For Linux there is AsparaginoÆs Comic Viewer which is a java-gnome application. It helps to view the scanned comic CBR files. Comix is another tool which is user friendly and can open the CBR files without difficulty. CbrPager is a simple viewer which is used to view small CBR files. It can display PNG, GIF and JPG files with zoom effect. When there are multiple documents Evince viewer can be used.
- There is one more way to read CBR files using a WinRAR. WinRAR decompresses the archive files. The JPG images can be easily extracted to a folder and can be viewed separately.
There are many other applications, which will help you to open CBR files and view them easily on your computer. You can find them on internet. These software are free to download and easy to install. Once you install an application, follow the instructions to open and view CBR file.
