Normally, the file in its first part is, encoded HTML, succeeding parts being additional resources distinguished by original URLs and is encoded in the base64. This is the format at times mentioned as MHT as it is given suffix .mht to such files type by default whenever they are created by Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word or Opera. Web Browser

There are many browsers which support MHTML format. It may be in direct way or may be through some third party extensions. The process of saving the web page with the resources it has as MHTML file is not the standardized form. This may be the reason that when a web page is saved as an MIME HTML file on using a browser may depict it differently on another.

Internet Explorer

With Internet Explorer5, the format .mht was introduced in the year 1999. When a user saves MIME file with the help of this format the user is allowed to save the web page along with its resources in a single MIME file known as ‘Web Archive’. In this, all the images with the linked files would be saved as single entity. It however may be not able to save some complex web-pages in correct form especially the ones containing scripts. In the Internet Explorer-8 for ‘Save as’ function the saving format by default is MHTML.

Opera Browser

The Opera web browser of version 9.0 was made for saving the web page as an MIME HTML file along with its all resources. In the Opera 9.50 for ‘Save as’ function the saving format by default is MHTML.

Mac Operating System

If MIME files are not recognisable by email programs then they may be decoded with the help of a file-decompression utility. It is seen commonly with an extension .MIM.

StuffIt Expander is an impressive decompression program for Mac. It has an ability to easily expand or decode any of the compressed files that have been downloaded from Internet or have been received as attachment to any email.

Mozilla Firefox

An extension is required to be installed in order to read the MIME files by Mozilla Firefox. The examples are the “Mozilla Archive Format” and the “UnMHT”. Both of these are compatible with Firefox 1.0 and other later versions. Both of these extensions can open as well as save the web pages in the form of .mht files.
