Landscape is the features of the land like water bodies, sea, lakes and land cover. Landscape comprises both the cultural and physical human presence. It gives a reflection of the people and place living at one place, which is very essential for the national and local identity. Landscape is the special characteristics of a particular area that defines the image of the area and differentiates it from the other places.
The earth has a variety of landscapes like the mountainous and polar region, desert, islands and forested regions. Landscape is viewed under a vast arena like landscape planning, landscape design and landscape ecology. Planning a landscape requires a lot of work. Many people have different ideas on ways to plan a landscape.
Here are some steps that will tell you how to plan a landscape.

Steps:
- Have a stroll in the area where you want to make the landscape. Is it sloped, flat or cornered? Is there a steep hill? Is it very dry? What is the sun exposure of that area? You will have to consider all these questions before you start planning the landscape, so start taking notes.
- Before planning a landscape, create a sketch of that area. You need not be an artist for making a sketch, just draw a rough picture on the paper. Make sure that you sketch the existing trees, plants and bushes. Draw every detail on the paper like retaining walls, swings, fences or lamps.
- Start making a list of all the elements that you love in landscaping. What kind of landscape features do you admire the most? Go through some of the garden and home magazines, this will give you some ideas on planning a landscape.
- Look for dead spots in your sketch, pay attention on the areas where you think something needs to be done. You can understand it by walking around in the area.
- You must start figuring out the landscape features, which you think will look good at the dead spots. Take the list of things that you want to add in your landscape and think of all the possibilities.
- Determine a timeline for the entire landscape project. If there is big project, then schedule an entire weekend so that you can finish the maximum work, and the remaining minute details you can finish in the week. For smaller things like trimming, removing plants, and edging try to take out some time everyday, so that you can complete your task.
- Make a rough estimate of the budget. If you are not definite of how much money you will need then visit a local nursery to check the prices of the plants and appliances. You can also check the online store for more details on the product costs. Check the prices of things like landscaping stones, gravel, bricks and plants.
- Clean the area where you want to undertake your project. Great landscaping is all about getting all the things in one place in a perfect manner. Clean the clutter in the landscaping area like pile of dead leaves, garden tools and bicycles. Find the right place for all the items and send them back there.
- Analyze the area of your project even if it is small or large. Take a step back, look at the things around you, and get a nice view of your landscape. Now you get all the ideas after seeing the different portions. You can add an ornamental tree at the corner of the flowerbed or make a water feature at the trellis. You do not have to complete everything now, just add it to your list and complete it when you get time.
- Keep in mind that landscaping will take time to mature. If you have already planted some plants, they will take time to grow but will fill the flowerbed, so do not crowd them. Try to be patient because planning a landscape is all about time.
