How to Prevent Autism

Autism is a condition in which the normal stages of development of brain are affected. It is usually seen in infants in the first three years of development. In this condition the normal social and communication skills of an individual are affected. The exact causes of autism are still unknown. Alternative name for autism is pervasive developmental disorder. Genetic factors are the most important factors responsible for this disease. Children suffering from autism have abnormalities in speech, chromosomal abnormalities and they are also found to suffer from neurological problems.

Studies reveled that identical twins are at high risk of having autism. You can take certain preventive measures so that you can prevent your child from autism. Here are the preventive measures for autism.

Eat organic food:

  • Pregnant women should include lots of fresh and natural food in the form of fruits and vegetables in their diet.
  • It is very essential that your baby gets all the essential nutrients in their natural forms so that it is healthy enough. A healthy baby is less prone to have autism.
  • The diet of pregnant woman should contain at least 180 grams of protein. Your child should not be deprived of any essential nutrients.
  • Include high quality chicken, turkey, nuts, eggs, etc in your diet.

Breast feed your babies:

  • Breast feed your child as long as possible. Breast feeding your child is the best natural way to prevent your child from any kind of illness.
  • Mother’s milk contains all the necessary nutrients that are needed by the child in the initial stages of development.
  • If your child is deprived of these essential nutrients then there may be the probability of developing autism in the child.
  • It is essential that you breast feed your baby for at least one year.

Don’t take excessive antibiotics when pregnant:

  • Taking antibiotics when pregnant could lead to adverse impacts on the fetus. Don’t take long-term antibiotic treatment as the antibiotics kill some of the useful bacteria along with the harmful bacteria.
  • Antibiotics should not be given to children as well. In case of certain unavoidable cases, treatment of antibiotics should be preceded by probiotics at least for two weeks.

Bond with your baby:

  • It is very essential that you bond with your baby.
  • Try to interact with your baby, play with him and talk with him. Don’t make him feel lonely. This is very essential for the proper physical and mental development of your baby.
  • Do not leave your baby alone in the night. Co-sleeping with your baby should be practiced.

Avoid exposure to mercury:

  • Women who are exposed to mercury when pregnant develop the risk of autism in their children.
  • It generally seen that most of the dental treatments make use of mercury. Dental fillings are made of mercury. Women should delay any such dental treatments while they are carrying.
  • It also advised that if pregnant women have any such mercury dental fillings, they should be removed during pregnancy.
  • The mercury present in your tooth can enter your body which could bring abnormal changes within your baby later on.
  • If you consume fish then make sure that the fish does not contain residues of mercury within it. It is mostly seen that large fishes contain mercury, so minimize consumption of such fishes when pregnant.

Consume vitamin D:

  • Vitamin D is a very essential source of vitamin for the proper development of your child. Early exposure to sun rays is the best natural source of vitamin D.
  • You can also take vitamin D in the form of supplements if necessary. Add adequate amounts of vitamin D3 in your diet through supplements if necessary.

Avoid exposure to harmful radiations:

  • It is observed that televisions, computers and cell phones emit harmful radiations which can trigger the factors responsible for autism, so exposure to such radiations should be avoided or at least minimized.
  • Do not keep these appliances in your bedroom.
  • Limit use of cell phones. Cell phones also emit infra red radiations which can penetrate through any object. They can easily penetrate your body and induce harmful changes in your child while it is still growing.
  • Use your cell phones only when necessary. Do not keep them near your bed.

Avoid intrusive procedures:

  • Do not opt for intrusive procedures such as pitocin, epidurals, forceps, pain meds and C-section during labor.
  • Mothers who opt for cesarean put their children at the risk of autism.
  • Neurological function of the child is enhanced if it passes naturally through the birth canal, so do not go for cesarean unless it is necessary.

The preventive measures given in this article are very helpful in protecting your child form autism which is otherwise impossible to treat in most of the cases.
