How to Prevent Blisters

Blisters can occur on any part of the body where there is frequent friction and rubbing of the skin against each other. These blisters are the small packets of fluid filled spaces that mostly occur on the armpits, inner thighs, groin area, etc. They may also occur on the sole of your feet. This article on how to prevent blisters gives you some useful suggestions on preventing blisters.

How to prevent blisters:

Prevent friction:

  • If you want to prevent blisters then the first thing you need to do is minimize the friction or rubbing of the skin on each other.
  • You can use preventing agents such as petroleum jelly, body glide and other creams that will help in lubricating the skin while the skin of certain areas such as inner thighs and armpits are rubbed over each other.
  • Apply these creams regularly to prevent the friction.

Proper clothes:

  • Select those fabrics that are smooth and avoid rubbing onto the skin. Fabrics such as Supplex, Coolmax, etc are good choices. Wear clothes made from these fabrics.
  • Avoid wearing tight fitted clothes. They irritate the skin and cause friction that aggravates formation of blisters.
  • Sometimes new clothes also initiate the formation of blisters on the skin, so do not wear clothes that are not washed properly when new.

Hydrate your skin:

  • If your skin is hydrated properly then there is less chance of getting blisters, because  improperly hydrated dry skin gets chafed easily that can further lead to the formation of blisters.
  • Drink the right amount of water. This will help you in keeping your body in good conditions and makes your skin healthy.
  • If you drink water in the required proportions then, you sweat more which enables the loss of toxins from the body. If you don’t perspire then the sweat stays on the surface of the skin and forms crystals of salt on the skin. This forms blisters on the skin.

Prevent blisters on feet:

  • Walking for a long time also causes blisters on the sole of your foot, so do not walk continuously for a long time; take breaks in between.
  • Selecting proper shoes also important in preventing blisters. If the sole of your shoes is itching and your shoe does not provide enough room then there may be blisters on your feet.
  • Wear cotton socks. Avoid wearing nylon socks as they do not soak the sweat. This results in blisters sometimes.
  • Applying lubricating agents on your feet will also help you in preventing blisters.
  • You will also get bandages that will help you with preventing blisters.
  • Those areas of the foot that have become dry and are prone to blisters should be covered with gel bandages. This will prevent the friction and blisters on the foot.
  • If you have to walk for a long time then you can spray cornstarch on your foot. This cornstarch is easily available in any store and when sprayed on the foot, absorbs the moisture and prevents blisters.

The suggestions given above have been proven to be useful for many people; try them to prevent blisters anywhere on the skin.
