Cyberbullying is the use of technologies such as email, instant messaging, chat rooms and social networking sites to bully people. Children are the most common victims of cyberbullying. They lead kids to depression. It is necessary that parents and teachers know how to prevent cyberbullying.
Since the invention of internet, apart from traditional school bullying, cyberbullying has also become a major issue with many of the advanced countries. It is necessary that we take some preventive steps to address it before the situation reaches a state which cannot be controlled.

They might be afraid of you putting restrictions over them for using computer systems and cell phones. You need to understand your child’s situation in such cases. Tips to prevent cyberbullying:
- Teach your children the difference between good and bad things, so that they do not engage themselves in any such abusive deed.
- Discuss and communicate with children freely. Allow them to talk with you frankly. Don’t be their parents, be their friends.
- When children are spending their time online, it is the responsibility of parents to supervise them, so that they do not use abusive or offensive language against anyone.
- Encouraging someone to use internet for bullying is also a crime, so don’t do this.
- Posting angry messages and images is also a crime, so avoid doing this and tell your children about this.
- Many a times we get angry with people, and choose email or message to abuse them and bully them. Do not do this. This can hurt their emotions and depress them.
- If someone around is bullied and this is disturbing them physiologically, try to help them. You can give them positive thoughts and help bring them out of depression.
- You can also inform the police about this so that they can take some action against the culprits.

- Educating the students at school is also very important. Schools should include such programs in their academic syllabus.
- Create a community so that you can reach people beyond the school walls to help them understand what is cyberbullying, why it is a crime and what are its impacts on other people who have to suffer with it.
- Encourage your children to involve in cyber safety groups. There are many groups such as tweenangels or teenangels that help kids understand cyber safety rules.
- Posters stating the rules for safe use of internet and what is cyber crime should be placed in the cyber cafés so that people understand, why bullying is a crime.
