How to Prevent Headaches

Everyone might have come across a headache at some time in your life. Some people may experience severe and frequent headaches. There are basically three main types of headaches such as, migraines, sinus and tension. Headaches are bad, and make you physically and mentally uncomfortable. This article on how to prevent headaches gives you some simple tips on preventing headaches.

Before knowing how to prevent headaches, let us know few things about the types of the headaches.

  • Migraines are severe headaches that usually affect one side of the head. The pain is very sharp and annoying accompanied by nausea, visual disturbances and vomiting.
  • Sinus is a type of headache that is caused because of the infection or any conditions that are hard to tolerate.
  • Tension is caused because of anxiety and stress. This pain is usually in the anterior part of the head.

How to prevent headaches:

Headache can be due to any reason, but it can be prevented using same methods as the root cause of all of them is same; stress, tension and anxiety. If you can manage them, then you can easily prevent headaches.

  • Give your body enough rest. Sleep is the best way to provide rest to your body. You should get at least 6 to 7 hours of sleep.
  • Massaging the head, shoulder and neck will also help you in preventing headaches. If you feel that ache in your head, it is a must that you massage your neck and shoulder before the pain gets severe.
  • Sit straight in your chair. You body posture matters a lot in headaches. Your head should be supported in the right way to prevent headaches.
  • Never skip your meals. Eat regularly and eat a nutritious diet.
  • Stretching exercises are also very helpful in relaxing your body. Perform regular stretching exercises such that your body functions properly.
  • If you give excessive tension to your muscles, this canĀ  lead to headaches. Whenever you have to perform work for a longer period, you should prefer taking breaks in between and allow your muscles to relax.
  • Massage therapies are also given in spas. Taking physical therapies to relax your body and free it from the tension and anxiety will also be very helpful in preventing headaches.
  • Following the same routine can cause headaches. Try and make some changes in your daily routine.
  • If you are unable to handle work pressure, and this is causing headaches, then change your job.
  • Distributing work with others can also be an option to deal with the stress that is caused at your workplace.
  • Beverages like coffee and tea, which contains caffeine, relieves you from headaches for some time, but drinking them frequently can result into severe headaches.
  • Observe the triggers that you feel are responsible for your headaches and try to avoid them.
  • Going out on a picnic with your family at least once in a week, helps in relaxing your body and relieves you from stress.
  • Do speak for long on cell phones. The radiations emitted by these phones are harmful to your brain and can cause severe headaches.
