How to Prevent Impetigo

Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial infection that is most common among school going children. This infection is caused due to bacteria ‘Streptococcus pyogenes’ and ‘Staphylococcus aureus’. It is very easy to prevent the infection due to this disease and this article on how to prevent impetigo gives you some easy to adapt and effective precautionary measures. There are mainly two types of impetigo bullous impetigo and ecthyma. In bullous impetigo there are painless blisters that are filled with the fluid. The infection in this case is to the superficial layer of the skin. In case of ecthyma the infection penetrates deep inside the skin and is characterized by painful ulcers and sores on the infected area of the skin.

How to prevent impetigo:

  • Ask them to wash their hands properly before eating and after eating.

  • Stay away from the people who are already suffering from cold and sinus, because they may transfer the viruses to you as well.
  • While sneezing, use a soft tissue. Rough tissues can further irritate the skin of the nose.
  • This disease can also be spread from the pets in your house. Therefore, it is necessary that you keep your pets clean, healthy and well groomed.
  • Including a healthy diet is also very essential to keep you immune system healthy such that you are not infected by the bacteria. A diet rich in vitamins and minerals will help you in having a good immune system.
  • Avoid sharing clothes and eatables with infected persons. This can transfer the bacteria to you and cause impetigo.
