How to Prevent Lag

People who play online games come across the problem of system freezes and game lag. It is very frustrating, but you can prevent this by changing few settings of the system. Knowing how to prevent lag will be helpful for you to prevent lag and play games smoothly without any interruption.

Tips to prevent game lag:

Update antivirus:

The first thing you can do to prevent game lag is update the antivirus that is installed on your system. You should also update all other firewalls that are installed on your system.

Stop problem causing services:

Next, you should uninstall all the services on your system that are causing problems to your system. These services are the one that are the main culprits. To do this, follow the steps that are given below.

  • Step 1: Open “Administrative Tools” by clicking on “Control Panel”.
  • Step 2: In Administrative tools, click on “services”.
  • Step 3: In the services dialog box, open the list of all the services that are currently running on your system.
  • Step 4: To view detailed description of the services, select “Extended” from the services window. “Question mark” symbol should be shown beside services.
  • Step 5: To stop the service which is causing problem, click on “Stop the service”. You can also stop the service by right clicking on the service and then choose “All task” and click on “Stop” button.
  • Step 6: Finally, click on “Ok” button and the service will be stopped.

Make sure that there is proper communication between software and hardware:

  • It is very important that your computer is set up properly so that there is an on-time communication between the hardware and the software of the system.
  • To ensure this you need to configure your windows DirectX technology by using DirectX tools.
  • When you are running advanced games on your system, it is essential, your graphic and sound cards respond to the application that is running on the system on time, or else there will be lag.
  • API’s or Application Programming Interface is the bridge that allows communication between the software and the hardware of the system.

To configure your systems’ APIs’, follow the steps that are given below.

  • Step 1: Click on the “start” tab on your desktop.
  • Step 2: Select “Run” from the list.
  • Step 3: In run, type “dxdig” and click on “ok” button. This will load the “DirectX diagnostic tool” menu on your system.
  • Step 4: Click the tabs which you want to verify. Here, we want to verify “display” and “sound” tabs, co click on them.
  • Step 5: Now, verify that both the features have no problems and are enabled.
  • Step 6: If you notice any problems then, reinstall DirectX diagnostic tools.
  • Step 7: When you have successfully reinstalled this feature, update your hardware drives.

Remove unwanted programs from your system:

  • If your hard drive is using too much of its valuable space to store some of the programs that is least important, then you should clean your hard drive by removing that program from your system.
  • This will help in freeing the space from the hard drive and when there is less of unwanted stuff on your hard drive, the necessary Add-Ins in your system to run the games will be found easily and there will be no lag and freezes in your system.
  • Cleaning the registry can also help you in preventing lag. Make an account of any changes in the registry as it is very hard to change them later, so do not touch the registry, unless you have enough knowledge of handling the software of the system.

Upgrade your system:

  • Upgrading your system will also help you prevent game lag. If your system is not compatible with the graphic and the sound cards used in the advanced games, then you may experience frequent game lag.
  • Look for the new versions of the graphic and sound cards online and install them in your system.

Turn off anti-virus:

  • Another method which can prevent game lag is, turning off the antivirus software and anti-spyware software programs.
  • This method is quite risky, but it is observed that these programs cause a lot of delay or lag while playing the games by performing checks on the small unnecessary programs and consumes the time of the CPU.
