How to Prevent Piles

Piles are the tissues present in the anal canal that help in proper passage of the stool. Piles are also called hemorrhoids. These piles become inflamed and cause itching, rectal pain and rectal bleeding when proper diet is not followed. These piles are classified as internal piles and external piles. External piles occur on the outer side of the anal canal while internal piles are those that occur on the inner side of the anal canal. External piles are more painful as compared to the internal ones. Some people may be not even aware of the fact that they have them.

The symptoms of piles resolve in some days in most of the case, but it causes too much of pain during the passage of the stool. People who have piles may show blood in their stool or urine. Preventing piles is much easier than curing it.

How to prevent piles:

These preventive tips will be helpful for you in keeping your stool soft and decreasing the pressure on your bowels. They will also help you in following proper hygiene.

  • Proper diet is necessary to prevent piles. Eating plenty of fibers is very essential to prevent piles. Fibers are very essential for proper digestion of the food and proper passage of the stool. If the stool does not pass through the passage properly then it can irritate the skin. If your skin gets irritated frequently then this can cause piles.
  • Food items such as grains, wheat, cereals and raw vegetables and fruits give you plenty of fibers when included in your diet in adequate proportions.
  • Piles are more common in urban areas, because people there prefer eating refined and processed food items. Excessive consumption of such refined food is also one of the major causes of piles. Avoid or limit consumption of refined food.
  • Drink plenty of water. Water is very essential for softening the stool and proper digestion. Water also helps in regulating the bowel movement. Proper bowel movement is very essential to prevent piles. Drink at least 2 to 2.5 liters of water daily.
  • You can also drink a glass of warm water mixed with honey and few drops of lime water early in the morning. Drink it every day in the morning to prevent piles and flush out impurities from your body.
  • Water can also be taken from the fruits. Increase intake of juicy fruits such as watermelons, oranges, papaya, etc. They provide you fibers as well as water.
  • Tomatoes and cucumber are also rich in fibers and water content. They help you in preventing piles.
  • Avoid eating food that does not digest easily. Food items such as chicken and red meat do not digest easily.
  • Deep fried, oily and spicy food is also found to be responsible for causing piles. Avoid including unnecessary spices in your diet.
  • Drink a glass of warm milk at night before going to sleep. Add two tablespoons of honey to it. Honey a good purifier that helps in proper functioning of the digestive system and the circulatory system of the body. It will be a great deal of help for you.
  • Drinking warm milk mixed with a spoon full of ghee at night will also help you soften the stool and its proper passage.
  • Urinate frequently. Frequent urination will help you in removal of impurities from the body and your bowel movement is also enhanced by frequent urination.
  • Adequate amount of sleep is also very essential to prevent piles. People who don’t get enough amount of sleep may suffer from anxiety, stress and tension. All these factors also contribute to pile formation. Managing stress, anxiety and tension are also very important to control and prevent piles.
  • Exercising regularly helps you in proper digestion and enhances your bowel movements. It is very essential that you exercise at least for 20 to 30 minutes daily. Mild exercises such as walking, jogging and yoga will help you a lot.
  • Wearing tight clothes could also be one of the reasons for piles. If your clothes are tight fitted then it can cause irritation in the skin. Irritated skin can easily develop external piles.
  • Proper hygiene is also very essential to prevent piles. Any infection in the anal area can lead to piles. Know proper methods of hygiene and follow them regularly. Whenever you use toilet, clean yourself using a soap and water.
  • Sitting in the same place for prolonged time could also lead to piles. If possible avoid sitting in the same place for hours, take breaks whenever possible.

Making the above changes in your lifestyle and having determination towards them, you can easily prevent piles.
