Plaque is generally formed when you do not brush your teeth and not follow proper oral hygiene. Here are few tips that will help you know how to prevent plaque.

Tips to prevent plaque:

  • Do not allow food containing carbohydrates and sugar to stay on the surface of the teeth for a long time. The bacteria love such foods and can easily attack your teeth.
  • These bacteria consume this food left on the surface of the teeth and produce acids. These acids produced by the bacteria deteriorate the teeth and are very harmful for your teeth. They even decay the tooth enamel that holds your teeth in place.
  • Regular brushing will help you remove these food particles from the surface of the teeth. This will reduce the chances of bacteria on teeth.
  • Tooth pastes that contain fluoride are the best ones. Look for the toothpastes that contain fluoride and brush using proper techniques.
  • Brush properly in between the gaps of the teeth. We usually neglect such places as they are hard to reach, but food particles are mostly found stuck in the tiny gaps between the teeth.
  • Chose your toothbrush properly that reaches each and every corner of your mouth. Change your toothbrush at least once in a month, because the bristles cannot brush effectively for a longer time.
  • Use flossers to clean the gaps in between the teeth. While using the flossers make sure that you do not injure the gums.
  • Brush your teeth twice in a day and floss your teeth at least once in day. It is very essential that you brush your teeth at night before going to bed.
  • During night, these bacteria become more active as the mouth remains closed for a long time and cause huge damage to your teeth.
  • Gargling will also help you in flushing any left over food particles in the mouth and removing the food particles from the gaps between the teeth.
  • Get a dental check up done by the dentist regularly. Take appropriate suggestions from him on dental care.
  • Get your teeth cleaned from the dentist at least twice in a year. They will clean the teeth properly and remove the infections if any in your teeth.
  • Use mouth washes to gargle; they are very helpful in preventing the plaque on the teeth.
  • Prefer eating a balanced diet that will help you strengthen your teeth and skip the snacks in between meals.
  • Avoid eating sweets and carbohydrate foods in excessive proportions. Whenever you eat such food, brush your teeth immediately.
  • Eat calcium rich food such as cheese, yogurt, milk and other dairy products. Eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Following the tips given above you can easily prevent the formation of plaque on the surface of your teeth.
