How to Prevent Worms

Worms are a common problem in pets such as dogs and cats. If your pet has worms in their body, it is a sign indicating that your pet is unhealthy. Roundworms, tapeworms and ringworms are the commonly known worms that attack your pets. They can cause infections leading to vomiting, weight loss and diarrhea in your pets. Here are some tips that will help you know how to prevent worms.

Tips to prevent worms in pets:

  • Worms are common in newborn pets or puppies. Check the puppies as soon as your dog gives birth to their young ones.
  • Get them tested for any infections or worms.
  • Follow proper hygiene for your pets. Bathe them regularly using disinfectant soap and warm water. This will kill the entire infectious flea present on their body that can reduce their immunity and make them susceptible to worm infection.
  • Use shampoos and soaps that are meant for reducing and killing the fleas present on their body.
  • Worms usually reside in the body of the animals. Using a brush, clean the fur, as these worms can enter into their body, residing in the fur.
  • Always, be updated with their vaccines. Take them to doctors for check-ups regularly and vaccinate them.
  • Stool of the pets can also be checked to diagnose any internal infections in the pets.
  • Feed them a healthy diet. This will help in boosting their immunity, so that parasites like worms and fleas are unable to attack them easily.
  • Do not keep the trays in which your animals eat food for a long time after they have finished eating their food. Clean their trays immediately.
  • Serve them food in clean plates to help prevent them from any infection that can make them more susceptible to the parasitic infections.
  • Limit your pets contact with dirt and soil. They contain worms and their larvae, which can be contracted to your pets.
  • Do not allow your pets to eat rodents and birds. Cats most of the times catch and eat birds and rodents. They are the carriers of insect larvae and eggs, which can cause infection to them as well.
  • If you have brought a new pet in your house, isolate the old ones from them unless you vaccinate them and groom them properly.
  • Do not allow your pets to come in contact with stray animals. They are unhygienic and may harbor infections that can pass on to your healthy pets.
  • Clean the stool of your animals and keep your house clean. Do not allow them to play in their own urine and stool. This is very unhygienic to them.
  • When you are traveling with your pets, you have to take precautionary measures for them as well by taking them to the doctors for complete physical examination.

Worms can cause internal infection to your pets and can reduce their immunity making them susceptible to diseases. Following the tips given above you can prevent your pets from worm infections.
